Can they be used in an led Maglite?

No. These batteries are 3.6 V. Typical D cells are 1.5 V. Depending upon the number of cells in your flashlight, it would burn out the driver or the LEDs.

Will these batteries work ok to power a 3.6 -to- 9 volt 3 watt led flashlight bulb stacked either 2 or 3 in series?

No. I do the math. Each of these batteries is 3.6 V. Your typical D cell battery is 1.5v. Oh, it would be kind of like plugging your TV into a 220 V outlet.
