Bought this to rip some DVD's to my plex server, works a treat and does the job I needed it to do.I had a spare Slimline SATA DVD-RW drive lying around so was going to swap out the drive inside the caddy, 2 screws on the back and the drive slips out the caddy. I was shocked to find this drive is based on the old IDE interface! That scuppered my plan. Still its useful for physical media in todays insane mentality where physical media is obsolete! I blame Netflix and Steam!So if anyone was thinking of buying this to get a cheap caddy for a RW drive, you will need a IDE slim line drive.

Ordered this on Saturday, arrived Monday morning. Good start...Plugged it into my laptop with the supplied USB Cable, inserted a cd and it picked it up straight away, no problems, no installation required. Happy days.I used it to install the software I needed. All done and very easy it was too.Why 4 stars and not 5? It's a tad noisy that's all. Nothing to stop you buying it unless you're running games directly off it or watching a film, then it might be a little loud. But for me, I can honestly say this is one of my best Amazon experiences.I would definitely recommend this product!Edit:It is now 5 years since I bought this, yes 5 years! When I first used it, it was on a Windows 7 machine. I have since upgraded to Windows 10, and bought a new PC as well. It still works fine on both!

I originally bought this for my car as it doesn't have cd player. I only have radio through the display screen so I hoped this would work through usb connection. Unfortunately it would not work. Fortunately it worked fine on my laptop. Connected with no issues. This allows me to transfer from laptop to usb and does the job. Hopefully this advice will help others.

Seems to play music cd okay but struggles to recognize some software cd's; like games. Often a message is displayed telling the user that the device failed to power up. There is also a '!' appears next to the device in 'device manager', indicating some sort of electronic or driver conflict. Attempts to update drivers always end in failure. also there are no drivers available online. Removal of the plastic top reveals the internal workings to be from Hewlett Packard, It feels very flimsy to me; possible down to to minimalizing the metal content to save weight. Interestingly googling the model number suggests it's a Teac product. The working are manufactured in Indonesia; I presume they are produced cheaply and in large numbers for 3rd party companies to put on there own cases and company name. A further example of it cheapness is that it came wrapped in only a polythene bag. I also noted that the drive itself was manufactured in 2005; that's 17 years ago. *** I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT***I have since replaced it with an Asus branded product which I have never opened up as it is working perfectly on all my computer; Including a Chromebook.

I purchased this just before Christmas 2020. Initially it worked fine but on third or fourth use it started to skip and stop the playback (I tried several DVDs and ones I knew to work). After that the unit didn’t play the disks at all. Unfortunately this happened just after I was able to return to the seller. Hard to say it’s not value for money as it was £10, but beware it might not last very long!

I bought 3 of these for 3 different classrooms. They all worked initially but 1 stopped working after 1 week. Unfortunately, lockdown happened and I was too late to send it back as the school closed!

So glad I ordered this product! Being at uni with a laptop without a disk drive and desperate to watch DVDs so decided to order the product!I am so pleased with it! It arrived quickly and on time! And it was packaged really well!The product itself is lovely! The little bag it comes in is cute and it's such an easy to use product!Had a little trouble at first because the plastic on the front of the disk tray wasn't attached properly and stuck out on one end. However I gave it a sharp push and it clicked back into place!I was also struggling to get it working but after downloading a media player to my laptop I realised why it wasn't working (whoops!)Overall this is a great product! It's a really really good price and totally worth it! Would recommend!

I am using this on my laptop as it has no cd drive and I needed to watch a dvd for exercise. We now have no dvd player as we strea, everything!!I couldn't get it to work on my laptop with windows 10 but that may be the laptop not windows 10 but on my older laptop with an older windows it works fine.I like the fact that it doesn't need to be plugged in to electricity as the power comes from the laptop as there are 2 usb connectors this means I can use it anywhere with my laptop.It is quite small, about the size of a cd drive in a computer that you can remove as I had in one laptop. It is light and easy to store ina small space.It is plug and play so not complicated installation needed
