works great, not bad price.
TLDR: Works well, fairly quiet, easily cleaned. This is the first electric can opener I've bought in a long time. I have mostly just used the manual ones. But all of the manual ones I've bought in the last 5 or six years fail pretty quickly. I'm not THAT old, but it does seem like they don't make 'em like they used to. Anyway, I was faced with buying yet another one. To by a " good" manual can opener, you can expect to pay 15.00 to 20.00. So...why not buy an electric one, right? Well this is great. strong quiet motor. Super easy to use. The top portion ( where the blade, the gear that turns the can, magnet to hold the can top etc. ) comes completely off so you can wash it without risking electrocution. I think it is even dishwasher safe. So that's cool. The knife sharpener is just ok. no moving parts, just a couple of ceramic rods at the right angles built into the base. It's actually a little awkward to use, but that wasn't a selling point for me anyway. Overall, it works well and seems like it should last a while. Edit: Still going strong 18 months later!

Worked Beautifully for About 4 Years
Electric can openers are an easy way to make life more pleasant for those of us who use canned food. I can’t believe that it took me over 18 years of married life, and until a newlywed made me aware of, the benefits of having one. Since then, I’ve made sure to have one in my kitchen all of the time. Of course, I still have a couple of manual can openers for times and places where it’s not possible to use the electric kind. When I buy a can opener, I expect it to last for some years. I don’t use can openers every day, or even every week. I bought this one because it had good reviews and I consider products sold under the Hamilton Beach name to be of good quality. This can openers has some really good features. I don’t have the product manual in front of me, so I’ll just mention 2 of them off the top of my head. The cutting attachment can be easily removed for cleaning. It also has a retractable cord. It cut cans ranging in sizes from small 6 ounce cans up to 29 ounce containers. I don’t remember why this is, but I do remember having to use a punch-style can opener for larger cans, such as those for tomato juice. It could be that I just found it more convenient to open it that way - so take that sentence with a grain of salt. I took care of this item, cleaning and during the cutting part and using WD-40 to keep it working smoothly. Just to make sure you understand, I didn’t use the oil many times over the 4 years (many only once, I can’t remember). I also didn’t spray the oil in it too heavily - when I decide to use preventative maintenance, I try to do it correctly. Sadly, it stopped cutting a couple of weeks ago. The magnet worked and the can revolved some, but it stopped after just a little while. It also made a funny noise. But the main problem was that it just didn’t cut. In fact, the odd noise came from the cutting blade. When I used force to insert the blade into the metal on top of the can, it did stab the top. But that was it. We tried a few different methods to try to get it to work, but failed. Maybe this was just a fluke. I’m sure many of these machines will last for years for some of you. I hope they do.

After many years our can opener finally wore out so I replaced it with the well known Hamilton Beach brand...It seems to be of good quality and has many additional features...The wife loves it because it is quiet and smooth...I thought it was a good value through Amazon...I would buy another if needed...Very easy to use ...

It Went Right Back into the Box for Return
I never learn. Spending more time in UPS returning stuff from Amazon than in the bathroom these days and for me, that's yeah, a lot. I'm truly almost in tears over this purchase because literally everything has become cheaper and more expensive. I refuse to buy crap. I had been reviewing electric can openers. They're a great invention, time-saving, easy to use. I'm a clean freak so I wipe the mechanism clean after every use. We've had a Hamilton Beach for perhaps 20+ years...or more. Well made, heavy-duty, very hard plastic casing, all steel opening components. Nice strong magnet to remove lid from cans. Lately, though, it's been looking shabby and the opening parts were rusty and kind of cruddy. I tried cleaning them with steel wool, gritty cleanser, etc., but no dice. Nothing worked. I kissed it goodbye and put it in the donate box. Then the search began. I didn't like the most popular one as it did not have a magnet in the opening mechanism. This I do NOT understand. I did not want a Kitchen Mama. If it had a battery option, maybe, plus I saw many reviews that said it was made very cheaply out of the thinnest plastic. No thanks. I was so tired and done with looking for a freaking can opener. Apparently, people must not use them anymore. Maybe Siri opens it for them? I Googled "Can opener with a magnet." A HB came up. Red! I loved the way it looked and it was cheaper than the #1 can opener which didn't have the magnet. Out of exhaustion and desperation, I clicked on it. Two days later, it was here. The box felt like it was full of cotton. Uh oh. So lightweight. I pulled it out and the color was a great pop for the kitchen! But it's made of the cheapest, thinnest plastic you could imagine. Then I checked out the opener part. They could not have made this aluminum or tin thinner or cheaper. It's too bad I've lived a long life already. I've seen the best. If you're 35 or younger, you have no idea what quality is like. Unless you do. So you buy the junk and it is what it is. You're used to it. But I will search for quality items no matter what it takes and I will continue to return this junk when I get it. I wish everyone would. This thing will obviously last a very short time and you'd have to handle it like a precious flower. Back it goes today.

This is the only electric can opener I have used that works like it should. You can almost just throw the can at it and it will work. I highly recommend it.

This one of my fav amazon purchases as of recently. I have 2 dogs so I open a minimum of 1 large can a day and I don't know if its the way I hold the manual can openers but they always get warped and turn opening cans into an absolute chore. I bought the top rated manual opener from Amazon and I kid you not it malfunctioned after 2 uses which leads me to believe it's user error lol Its very easy to use and it has a little magnet that holds the can for you as it spins and hold onto the lid making it easier to remove. Also it cuts it in a way that doesn't leave the lid sharp. Ive cut my self a few times on that manner. 5 out of 5
