PENNSpinfisher VI Spinning Fishing Reel

recently purchased the PENN Spinfisher VI Spinning Fishing Reel, and so far, I am quite impressed with its performance. Here's why I would give it a four-star rating:Durable and Reliable: The construction of this fishing reel is top-notch. I have used it in both freshwater and saltwater, and it has held up exceptionally well.Smooth Drag System: The drag system on the Spinfisher VI is incredibly smooth and consistent. It provides me with the necessary power to handle big fish, allowing for a seamless fight and minimizing the chances of losing my catch. The drag knob is also easy to adjust, making it convenient in the heat of the moment.Excellent Line Capacity: The line capacity of this reel is impressive. It can hold a significant amount of line, giving me ample opportunity to target a variety of fish species. Additionally, the line lays nicely on the spool, preventing tangles and improving casting distance.Anti-Corrosion Protection: The Spinfisher VI reel incorporates a sealed body and spool design, preventing saltwater and other contaminants from entering its core components. However, if you are looking for a high-quality spinning fishing reel with great performance, the Spinfisher VI is definitely worth considering.

Smooth and durable. I have a 2500 paired with a 7'2" medium light rod and a 3500 paired with a 7' medium rod. Both handle slot redfish and trout with ease. The reels are a little heavy, but that's a small sacrifice for the IPX-5 seal. Good drag system. I don't worry about salt spray nor a good freshwater rinse of them after my inshore saltwater fiahing trips. Easy to maintain.

Great deal, great reel, zero complaints

I've had my reel for a little bit of time now and have slammed some really nice cod, haddock, striper, dogfish, pollock and several more species. Most of my fishing with it has been off of a Penn slammer 9.5ft rod and will be going on my Penn Slammer surf rod permanently. It casts veryyy welleven on the shorter rod. Casts heavier chunk baits, bottom rigs with 12-14oz weights and even lighter lures exceptionally well.

The real showed up quickly and was advertised. You can feel how solid the engineering is on this real and smooth action. Very happy.

I go out a couple times a year on long range trips for large tuna (60lb-200lb+). Normally an assortment of casting reels is the order of the day and serves well. Last trip one of the fellow anglers was fly lining (gently casting a live sardine and leaving the bail open and letting it run) with a spinning reel. He was out casting everyone and getting his sardine out farther away from the boat than the majority of fellow fisherman and getting hit more often. Decided to try out a spinning reel. My past experience with spinning reels was for bass and trout fishing. Fish under 5 lbs and 8 lb monofilament. First I had to find a spinning reel up to the task of handling 100+ pound tuna. Penn's SpinFisher was a great find. Well made reel with the ability to change reel handles to either side (I cast with my left hand and reel with my right hand). Spool accommodated over 400 ft of 100lb spectra to which I attached a 130 lb leader. Great price point made greater by the sale I was fortunate to catch. Only minor area to improve is that you have to manually close the bail, it does not close upon turing the handle after casing. I can't commend on casting as I improperly matched too small a rod (only 7 ft and rated 40-80 lb). Because of the weight of the reel it was difficult cast properly a such a small rod. Overall very pleased and would recommend this reel but only with a longer and beefier rod.

I have been using Penn my entire life and after 40 years they still make the best reels. This reel is solid metal, Penn quality after receiving the first one I bought two more they are great.

This thing is killer. Catch anything I want from the shore. Using this for big black drum in southwest Florida. The live liner function is huge.

I bought a pair of live liner Spinfisher 4500s after a carp took a rod into the lake. The drag is smooth and the line lay is perfect. I had to add one of the provided spacers to one reel to get the line lay right. This is only the second or third time I’ve had to do this with a Penn reel, I own a lot of them. I really like that there are three tension settings on the live liner and it disengages automatically after a turn of the handle. The 4500 holds 300 yards of 30 lb J-Braid Grand with room for a few meters of leader. My only gripe is that I wish the clicker was a little louder but it’s enough. Penn continues to produce fantastic reels for less than the other guys.
