Filling cracks.
Customer service good, advised of shipping updates. Tried using a backer rod from local hardware store, but it was too thick for the space. This will fill the space better. I have to wait to spring to use as cold weather prevents me from using now.

Works great for filling gaps in doors
I grabbed this backer rod to use to fill the gaps around a door jamb in an unfinished garage to keep the dirt and dust out of a storage room, and it worked perfectly. Going to get a larger roll to go ahead and do the other doors and windows now.

Was not expecting this quality for a backer rod. EPDM is a great rubber for harsh environments.
I was actually expecting a backer rod that was made of foam (closed-cell polyethylene foam), but was PLEASANTLY surprised to find this heavy-duty rubber. It says EPDM throughout the description, but "normal" backer rod is the rather flimsy extruded foam that pool noodles are made of.EPDM is one of the common materials used in weather-proofing roofs and those thick black rubber tie-down straps. It holds up extremely well to UV exposure.Note that EPDM will break down when in contact with other bituminous materials, including asphalt and tar. Keep this in mind for you application. I would imagine it would melt into those materials, creating a tar-like goo, but I don't know if it would completely degrade it causing it to flow away from wherever it has been inserted.I'm using this in the expansion joint between my garage and the driveway. The "normal" material used there is not water resistant and allows water to freely infiltrate that joint. I have found myself in an unfortunate predicament where the soil under my driveway has eroded since the house was first built, as the garage is over part of my basement, so there is a foundation basement wall that runs down from the front of my garage. Over the years rainwater has flowed down that expansion joint and down the outside of my basement, eventually reaching the underground foundation perimeter drain. Through the 18 years since my house was built, it ended up being significant erosion.I've since had poly-jacking done to life my driveway, but we found it beginning to lower again, just one year later. I'm using this backer rod to fill that joint and reduce the amount of water that can infiltrate that joint and at least reduce the amount of further erosion.

This is really durable and pliable rubber. Better than the foam ones from the big box store.
I am doing some backsplash tile installation in a kitchen. Needed to fill a couple of spots where the wall and counter top don't quite meet. Backing the cracks with this rod was perfect. It is a soft rubber like material. It can stretch and compress very well and I really liked working with it. It was more forgiving and firmer than the cheaper foam versions of this I used before. I also realize that this would be a great product for using in the expansion joint on my driveway. Pliable and durable and keeps the dirt (and weeds) out. I recommend.

Perfect for what it's made for!
This is exactly what I needed to fill in some larger gaps in the siding before caulking. It takes up the space so the caulk doesn't have to. Works well. Just squishy enough to fill some tighter spaces. No complaints.

Works great but too small
I got the 1/4 thickness backer rod but it ended up being too small and too short to fill in the gap above and around the sides of my garage door. These rubber coated foam rods are well made and very easy to use. You can really squeeze it tight to almost a third of it's thickness, shove it into the gaps and they stay in place. I didn't think it would be so squeezable otherwise I would have gotten the 1/2 thickness. For the quality of the rods, given that they are rubber coated, they are a fair price.

High quality backer rod
I was expecting a much lighter closed cell foam, but this has more of a rubber consistency. It gives off quite a bit of off-gassing odor, but fills cracks well. I got the 1/2" backer rod and it measures 1/2" uncompressed exactly. It can be compressed down to ~1/10" but comfortably can be shoved into a 1/4" gap. I used it to fill some concrete cracks before covering with concrete sealant and it worked well.

Used inside our garage door seal for a stiffer seal!
Ordered this to fit inside the center O of our bottom garage door seal to stiffen it and keep it sealed throughout the year! Works well and I will use the remainder as backing rid when I fill some sidewalk gaps in the spring!
