Amazing short story with Star Wars background <3
What a beautiful short story. And it's about Star Wars. What else can you possibly want? Well I tell you - for it to be a book. But well, one can't have everything.Definitely worth reading, because everything Raibow Rowell touches turns to gold. She's a true wordsmith, able with just only few pages show us something different. The main charcters are super likable and cute. No insta-love, no abusive stalkerich creeper dudes. Just a cute, contemporary story that will leave you with this stupid "awwww" grin on your face.My only complain is that it is not 96 pages, as it's stated. It's only about 60 pages long. 20% of that is a first preview chapter of a book that I have no intent of buying. And also, I have no idea why the cover says that this is for older readers, because I found nothing shocking or inapropriate in it that would be not suitable for younger readers.

“Everybody likes Star Wars,” he said. “Everybody likes everything these days. The whole world is a nerd.”
A short story about waiting and believing — but mostly waiting — by the New York Times bestselling author of Eleanor & Park, Fangirl and Carry On. When Elena decided to camp out for the next Star Wars movie, she was expecting a celebration, a communion — a line full of people who love Star Wars so much, they have to share it. She wasn’t expecting this: a freezing sidewalk, nowhere to pee, and three nights stuck with a boy who decided not to like her before they even met. It’s enough to make a girl leave the line… But Elena came here for Star Wars, and it will take more than bad weather and a dumb boy to squash her spirits. “Everybody likes Star Wars,” he said. “Everybody likes everything these days. The whole world is a nerd.” This is not the first time I have read this author books. I love them, they speak to my nerdy side. I was lying in bed reading this book last night holding in giggles and started telling my husband about this book. His response was "the author must know you and is writing books specifically for you." After finishing this book I have to agree with him. My only complaint is how short it was but alas it is called a short story. I totally recommend this book to anyone who loves Star Wars or just want a good giggle. As always I want more Rainbow and I want more of the characters in this book. I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars.

I feel like I flew through it
Kindred Spirits was a cute little book. I feel like I flew through it. The MC, Elena, is obsessed with Stars Wars. So what does she do when a new movie is coming out? Well she decides to wait in line (I think for a week?) outside the movie theater. She wants to be the first one there, get a great seat, and enjoy the amazing movie she's been dreaming about.Unfortunately, things don't go her way. She had high expectations about this whole sitting outside the theater. She thought there would be a huge group of people and they would have loads of fun. Instead, it was two other guys with her. Just sitting there.. getting smelly... probably looking ratchet.. to see a movie. Now I'm not a huge Star Wars fan.. and I highly doubt that I would want to see a movie so badly that I would wait outside a theater for a week. Especially since she already had the tickets, well all three of them did, but why wait outside? I don't know I'm weird. I've gone to like midnight showings and stuff.. but I would only be in like for like maybe an hour or two? #HARRYPOTTER4LIFE.Besides that I really liked her friendship that she formed with Gabe. They fangirl over Star Wars and I swooned over their nerd love. I shipped them way too hard and way too quickly. Loved them so much but I did find it kind of cliché that they go to the same school but she didn't know that or notice him but he knew and noticed everything.Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It went by way too quickly. I think I need another Rainbow Rowell book pronto! Any recommendations?

Really funny short story
The Book Return BlogRead this review and more on my blog. This 'book' is really a short story. The story it's self is sixty-two pages. The rest is the first chapter of another book by another author. So I'm going to make this review short and sweet.Rainbow Rowell is one of my favorite authors. Although I am not a big short story reader, I wanted to read 'Kindred Spirits' because of that. It's basically about a girl name 'Elena' and her experience standing in line waiting for a 'Star Wars' movie but she gets in line like three days in advance and there are only two other people in line.It follows a premise that I have often thought was interesting. Sometimes you meet people by happenstance and never see them again but for a short time they were a part of your life. Also, this story is hilarious. I laughed every-time Elena's mother drove by I also loved the idea of 'line rules'. Although, it says on the cover, for 'older readers' this could also be a young adult story.

CUTE
Ohmygosh, WHAT a cute short story! Rainbow Rowell has done it again, and this time, in less than 100 pages. I found myself relating to Elena on so many levels, which made her interactions with her mom, Gabe, and Troy even more hilarious. Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that the character Troy is the same sandalwood-loving, D&D playing character from Rowell's first book (And my personal favorite), Attachments. I see you, Rainbow. I see you. That aside, I promise this quick read will give you all the feels- whether they be Star Wars feels, romance feels (enemies to friends to lovers trope), or pretty much any feels you expect from Rainbow! I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Hotly anticipated, all expectations fulfilled.
I pretty much got home from work today, downloaded this right away and read it in one sitting. I've read (to the best of my knowledge) everything Rowell has written and loved it all, bar none. Rowell has a knack for taking otherwise ordinary and everyday ideas and making them extraordinary with her efficient, vivid writing and warm humour. I think the story is best enjoyed without spoilers but I can say it's similar in tone to Eleanor & Park and Fangirl.A few notes about this kindle publication - there are about half a dozen typos and grammatical errors that made me think the book was a little rushed. Amazon's description claims the book is 96 pages long but it's only 63 pages long - the rest of the pages are a sample for another book I definitely won't be buying. I'm also confused about why the sticker on the cover says "for older readers" as I could really see nothing shocking or questionable about the content. It's pretty tame. (And that's no bad thing.)Overall, it's essentially a big short story and it will take you under an hour to read. It's not got the scale or grandeur of Carry On or the emotional range of Attachments but, as long as you know what you're getting, it's well worth your £1. (or 95p on Kindle!)

Kindred Spirits Review
Rainbow Rowell is slowly becoming one of my favourite authors. After searching for all of her books on Amazon, I came across Kindred Spirits. Since I am no longer in school, I miss out on all the World Book Days and I don't get to see all of the amazing books that are written for it.Following World Book Day tradition, this book is very very short. It's 62 pages, so if you were expecting a Fangirl size book, then you're going to be disappointed. It didn't even take me an hour to finish this book but I loved every single second of it.If you broke Elena's heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she's expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does. What she's not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectable Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels. This book is both cute, hilarious and real. I totally related to the character of Elena since I am also a huge Star Wars fan.The concept of the book was really good. I love the idea of a massive fan queuing outside a venue for days on end just so they can get good seats. I would love to do this myself as the longest I've queued was when my best friend and I went to a concert and went four hours before the doors opened so that we could get a good view. We were fifth in line. So I can relate to Elena on that front also."How could you possibly have a dark secret involving the Star Wars prequels? Are you responsible for Jar Jar Binks?"- Rainbow Rowell, Kindred SpiritsI also loved the argument that Rowell portrays through this book of geeks vs fake geeks (fake geeks being people who pretend to like 'geeky' things because they think it will make them 'cool'). In no way am I agreeing or disagreeing with the argument that is conveyed to the readers, but I found it very interesting. The ending too was absolutely amazing. It's probably one of the best endings I've read in a long time! The only part of this book that I didn't get is that Elena is described as quiet, a person who finds it difficult to talk to other people but throughout this 62-page story, I didn't see any of that. I saw a girl who was confident to talk to a complete stranger and pee in a cup whilst he was standing a few feet away.If you're looking for a quick and easy read that is lighthearted and funny then this is the book for you. Even if you're not a Star Wars fan - read this book!Rainbow Rowell has done it again - another amazing story!thebibliophilegirluk.blogspot.com

Rainbow Rowell is literary goddess who I would follow to the ends of the Earth. That's a little extreme. (But not false.)
Read this review along with others on my blog @ libroliv.comRainbow Rowell is one of my favourite authors, and I seize every opportunity to shower her with praise, with the aim of indoctrinating you all into acquiring her novels. (Slowly but surely.) (I'm not evil, I just want to spread the love.)Thus, despite Kindred Spirits only being a short story, I felt the urge to review it.Frankly, I was very much in the correct mood for this story. I felt myself being imperceptibly tugged into the grips of a reading slump, and Kindred Spirits managed to throw me miles away from one like an ejector seat. This novel was light-hearted but meaningful, sweet yet hilarious, and I loved it.Obviously, though, I could have done with more. I could have read a whole book based on this concept. However, I knew what I was going into, and so I was content with the entirety of the story, feeling as though I was abandoned with just the right amount of questions, just the right amount of theories that make a novel good.My English teacher stresses that subtlety is key to engaging writing. You shouldn't tell the reader that this happened, then this, then this, then this. You should imply things, or just hint at them, so as to ensure the reader stays on his/her toes throughout, and is eager to discover the fate of the characters.Rowell has a similar technique, and I love it. I love the fluid and seamless transitions between time and location, and I love the characters she builds. The few characters mentioned were easily recognisable, and went through beautiful developments in just a few days. It's wonderful how Rowell has worked with such a sort time-frame - as well as a short word count - to develop such a meaningful and complete novel. Personally, I believe the development of a character over just a few days is a fantastic entity to peruse. Thus, I awarded Kindred Spirits 5/5 stars - how could it earn anything less? Rainbow Rowell is literary goddess who I would follow to the ends of the Earth. That's a little extreme. (But not false.)So, if you enjoyed any other novel by Rainbow Rowell, or you are a simultaneous consumer of both Star Wars, and YA fiction, I encourage you to pick up this short story - you won't regret it!

"Rainbow Rowell has done it again..."
Elena is obsessed with Star Wars. Having been raised watching the originals and being an ultimate fan, Elena decides to camp outside of the cinema for the release of the new movie. She expected big crowds, people dressed up and nerds connecting on a molecular level. What she found was much different, but she discovered so much more about herself than she could ever imagine.Yes, the above synopsis makes this little mini-story sound cheesy and sentimental and whilst it's not, it kind of is at the same time. Rainbow Rowell has done it again - this time in mini form and unsurprisingly, I loved it. Every character in the book was lovable and relatable (I LOVED Elena's mum) and the story was intriguing, heart-warming, funny at times and just generally lovely. Highly recommend reading this little book.

I just wish it was longer!
Another fantastic story from Rainbow Rowell, I only wish it was longer. Kindred Spirits is a World Book Day short story, which is one of three events in the UK which promotes reading, and World Book Day focuses on getting kids and teens reading. This was such a cute short story. I loved it, and I definitely related to it. When I was a teenager I used to wait in lines like this all the time. For films, concert tickets, everything. The characters were good, the Star Wars element I loved, and I just wanted to read more about the people in this. There's not a lot to say about this, because it's only 96 pages long, but what I can say is I loved it. And, as all Rainbow Rowell books seem to do, it put a big smile on my face.
