Works but slow
Easy to setup and use but real life data transfer speeds are painfully slow. Looks well made , small and easy to transport. Expensive for what it is given the slow performance

Very smooth and nice, not speedy though
As of now (02/2024), this is probably the cheapest way to get 8TB of USB SSD drive storage as (a) there is currently a £100 cashback offer from Samsung (b) nobody else makes 8TB USB SSD as far as I know and (c) to do this using regular NVmE storage in a USB enclosure would cost at least double. So as it stands, this drive is very much appreciated. The drive itself is really nice to hold, it has like a rubbery texture to it. It plugs in with USB-C to USB-C. It has a small, red activity LED on the front. Samsung Magician detects it perfectly. You can password protect the drive using Samsung Magician. If you do so, the drive will show itself as a 73MB FAT partition until you enter the password when it will then show the entire 8TB of storage. In use, the drive itself is a bit faster than a traditional USB HDD but the (severe) bottleneck is in the USB3 interface. This drive could have been so much faster with a more modern interface but Samsung chose to use USB3.2 gen1. So it loses a point for that. That said, this is so much nicer than a traditional USB HDD because it's silent, it's more durable, it doesn't need power (only a USB-C cable), it's smaller (pocket-sized) and it's faster. So if you're used to backing up data to USB HDD then this will be a nice improvement. This drive does not support Samsung Encrypted Drive unfortunately. You can use BitLocker on this drive but only in software mode. There is no support for hardware BitLocker. Samsung provide the password option instead. You can use Samsung password and BitLocker together if you wish. This drive does not support Samsung Secure Erase which is unfortunate and likely due to it's SATA controller. With constant use (during a backup), the drive got to 40 degrees which is perfectly acceptable. Using a standard NVmE drive and a drive enclosure would have doubled that temperature so this is another plus for buying the Samsung T5 Evo.Not having to provide power is a massive bonus as all 8TB USB HDD units require power including a power brick and this is a major hassle. So it's nice just to be able to plug in the Samsung T5 Evo with a simple USB-C cable and be good to go. No more power bricks is probably my favorite feature.Verdict: Very nice drive, lots of great things especially compared to USB HDD, loses a point due to slow speeds which are faster than traditional USB HDD but slower than it could have been with a different interface. Still, if you don't want to go down the third party enclosure route (which has its own issues), this is another first from Samsung bringing 8TB of USB SSD storage to mass-market.Update: I ordered a second one of these 8TB drives. Even though I have Prime with next day delivery, Amazon kept pushing the delivery date back further and further and eventually Amazon said they had lost the parcel and told me I would hopefully get a new drive or a refund within two weeks. They didn't say which, they didn't say when and they weren't even sure if I would get either. They told me to contact them again in two weeks if I don't get anything. So now I'm checking my balance every day to see if Amazon have refunded me. Very, very poor service on this one occasion from a company which in the past has always been truly outstanding for service. I did order a third drive and that arrived perfectly and on-time so I guess Amazon had an off-day.

Portable SSD with decent speed but a caveat
Bought this to backup just about everything I have digitally. Drive looks well made (though the rubber coating is a dust magnet) and the read/write speeds, while not top-notch, is still decent enough for my needs. The surprising part being it cannot be securely erased, even with Samsung's own software. This means I can't simply wipe the drive and sell it on the used market a few years on. Hope Samsung will listen and address this in a firmware update.

NOT COMPATIBLE WITH REKORDBOX
Tried every troubleshooting step available to try and get this working. I've worked in IT for 10 years, but cannot get the drive to work within Rekordbox which is what I purchased it for. Will be sending it back.

Seems solid
Great little 8tb SSD for a reasonable price, could have a quicker write speed for a SSD but you’d probably have to pay more for that.
