Great head unit with an amazing built-in amp!
Great head unit. Connects quickly, reliably and works stable. And it sounds INCREDIBLE. And I mean, absolutely fantastic! It drives Sony XS-162ES installed in soundtreated doors in my little hatchback with NO AMPLIFIER or a SUBWOOFER and it literally wobbles my interior mirror and shakes my seat backrest with bass! (I'm dead serious, not making this up!) From a built-in amp! Wow! Just wow! The vocals are clear and alive and airy, overall it sounds neutral but very pleasant. It has a lot of preset EQs as well as a couple of custom ones you can save, time alignment, which alows you to adjust the sound stage to your car's interior. The menu is simple, minimalistic, white over black, which is what you want when you're driving. It's clear, easy to read, responsive and clever - UI shows you which option is enabled right on the list of options, without going into each setting page. For example, on sounds settings page it'll say EQ - Custom, DSP - ON, etc. instead of just EQ, DSP, etc. (Hope that does make sense, but trust me it helps a lot when you're using it while driving). Other features work great too, GPS signal is stable, hand free calls are clear and loud, FM and DAB radio works well, screen is responsive. And here's it's weakest point - the screen has relatively low resolution. In this day and age it's a bit disappointing to see the screen like that, especially for this price. Buuut, I'd say we're just sooo used to having great screens in our phones and other devices, so this low-ish resolution screen just jumps at you. But it's only when you stare at it closely, when you're driving you don't look at it for a long time, what you really want is good contrast and quick response. And it has that. It could be a bit brighter, too, but I can't say I ever struggled reading it on a bright sunny day. The brightness is good enough. And given HOW it sounds, I'm happy to forgive the screen resolution, I've bought it for the sound first and it just exceeded my expectations threefold!
