It's bright, not the brightest you can get, but, conversely, it's hot, but not as hot as others get. Basic physics correlates heat and light so you see where this is going. The LED can theoretically go brighter, but it gets hotter, which requires more power which requires heat sink (or it burns out). Heat sink means bigger, more power used means more batteries means bigger.Basically it's a good compromise, and if you're used to a torch that has a bulb in it you will be staggered by this.Build is stupidly solid and heavy, (sterotypically) men will probably like it just for the weight.No crenellation on the front means it's not designed to stab people in the face (others have that). But it's bright enough to blind an attacker for a few seconds if shone direct in the eyes. And it has the square flats machined for mounting to your gun (so you can play at CSI Luton)Beam is a spot, not a flood, about 1m / yd wide hotspot at 6m / yd range, with a peripherally illuminated area.18650 batteries are "non standard" but easy enough to find, can be pricey (£10-£12 for a good one) and you will need a charger (NiteCore i4 is very good). Buy them in pairs and have the spare charged, ready to go.Beware, once you get this you will be intrigued and get into the "I want a brighter one" race, ending up with a 6x1850 powered, 14xCree XM-L2 torch that's brighter than a car headlight, but the size of the rubber torch you had as a child! It is difficult for me to classify this torch. On one hand the heft and weight of it makes it difficult to be an everyday carry, but the construction quality is simply awesome. Im not sure why the XM-L2, a 1200LM LED, is being driven only at 650LM but the torch is still unbelievably bright. Battery life is actually pretty good, about 2 hours from a 2000mah 18650 Li-Ion battery. The only downsides of this torch, other than weight, is that it gets pretty warm. After about 20 minutes of constant use it is almost too warm to touch, which would make it an excellent torch in the winter when thermal transfer would be better.

After 4 months of use, it began to fail. Like there's a false contact on the inside. And yes it gets too warm after use.

This flashlight is bright as advertised and has a solid feel in hand. However it's very heavy for its size and therefore uncomfortable to carry in your pocket for an extended period of time. Good for the drawer or your car, not in your pocket.

With 650 Lumens, it's really bright. I got over 2 hours use before I had to recharge the battery. It does get a little warm with extended use.

Nice compact and the best it is bright just what I wanted.

Replaced my old maglite and is smaller, lighter and brighter as well. Nice that it is all metal and has a heavy duty end cap power button. The only negative (and it is not much of one) is that the beam can not be focused. Not an issue for what it is being used for (day to day small flashlight for finding small dropped items).
