Yesterday's review: Yes...the search is over! Today: FANCY EARPLUGS RUINOUS MICROPHONIC
Today's review:You can read my initial review below. It is null and void. The MICROPHONICS problem with this cable is ridiculous. Just breathing makes a rough loud rumbling sound enter the private musical sonic world. Forget ever listening to music as low dynamic levels. All attempts to enjoy what is an otherwise beautiful sound is ruined by this. Beware: if you're looking for a noise isolating earbud it does an excellent job of diminishing outside noise. The problem is it does not isolate you from internal rumbling and loud rubbing sounds from a sub-par cable ill-designed cable. And who wants to wrap it around your ears if this is not the design? Literally, you could put an external amp on the cord and play it like a metal guitar string. It's that loud. So back they go, and HIFIMAN added to my lengthening list of flawed and therefore useless earbuds. An additional word of advice: order these if you would like a pair of fancy earplugs, but only if you never plug in to any electronic device. They aren't intended for music. And a final observation: the 1/8" jack does not work unless the adaptor is put on the end of the cord. That 1/8" jack does work. But again,Here's yesterday's review:Yes Yes Yes. Finally. The search is over. These are the best earbuds with the best balanced sound I've tried, including the $500 Shures, top of the line Sony, JVC Kenwood, BeyerDynamic, Sennheiser...and over and on ear top models. What is astounding is the awesome midrange, and the overall balance across the sonic frequency spectrum. And all this in small housing. I always have to modify the EQ to enhance midrange, decrease treble to take the edge off, and try to get enough bass to support it all, but not with these. I have them on "neutral" and the balance is perfect. Not sure how this was done, but realize all of the over ear pieces, large housings, and all the rest can't compare. I'm amazed. Even poorly recorded stuff sounds rich and bright. What clarity. I'm a concert pianist for over 40 years, a hard core metalhead, and Floyd fanatic. These buds can do it all. Just listen to the opening of Wish You Were Here and you'll be a convert. Then take a listen to Ghost Reveries and Watershed. Top it off with Annie Fischers's recording of Beethoven's Op. 111 piano sonata ... and you'll realize the search is over as well. I had nearly given up. Sent so many of these back to Amazon, and Amazon has been great all the way (but I did receive an email expressing concern that so many had been returned!) Amazon Prime allows this and a better deal can't be had.The packaging really should be insignificant, but the hard core leather stitched case with a touch of metal and 10 or so pairs of tips--including flange, silicone, and others--and a nifty device to wrap the cord around. It's actually what I would call beautiful--it could be placed on any nice table just for it's aesthetic look alone.I know all this is just my opinion, but I really would give these a try before going down the rabbit hole believing that the super pricy IEMs are the way to go. That's the trap I found myself in. Now, for about $150 the search is truly over, unless of course HIFIMAN upgrades these down the road. It's pretty silly to be this happy, but it's like a pot of gold was left at my doorstep.By the way, take a listen to The White Goddess by Atlatean Kodex--nothing else like it--nearly an hour of epic mythology culminating in the most amazing rise up to absolute ecstasy and honest raw feeling you can imagine, and then pulls you back to planet earth with a gorgeous piano solo. That's in my head now in the way it was meant to be because I'm using the RE-600s. Thank you, much gratitude, think I'll call in sick for a few days, go to a mountain top, and scan the sonic universe.

Sounds great, when it works
In short, RE-600 is a great sounding IEM that is good for daily use, however, has severe issues with reliabilityPros: Sounds great Very comfortable Feels sturdyCons: MAJOR issue with reliably, currently on my third replacement which is beginning to failI will say, when the RE-600 work, they sound great. I had a pair of Bose MEi2 that I had been using as a daily driver for many years (until I dropped them in a busy public place), and I have a pair of HE-400i that I use for high quality listening. I got these to replace my MEi2. The RE-600 have a typical HIFIMAN sound stage, which is very even across all ranges. The bass was more than enough for my tastes, and all the ranges blended nicely. If you like lots of dubstep or drum and bass, HIFIMAN probably isn't going to be for you. But if you like a wide range of music, classical, jazz, country, rock, or whatever, the RE-600 will be to your liking. The RE-600 are very comfortable. Switching from on-ear to in-ear takes getting used to and has its advantages and disadvantages.Pros of in-ear monitors or IEMs: Blocks out lots of ambient and background noise Easy listening to softer music Has very little if any noise pollution, listening at high volume in a quiet room doesn't attract stares from other Fits deeper in your ears, so listening while lying sideways on a pillow doesn't dig into your earsCons of IEMs: Blocks air flow to ear canal, which can cause a popping sensation and discomfort Any light contact or rubbing of the cable is distinctly heard Talking or eating is very loud and annoying Harder to find a good fitThe RE-600 take care of finding good fitting ear tips, including several different sizes and styles. As for the cable, it is a cloth weave cable that feels and looks nice, but does not perform as well. The cable twists easily and does not untwist easily at all. They don’t seem to insulate the wires very well at all, leading to lots of interference. Why two stars? When I first got these, I immediately noticed a constant soft buzzing in only the right monitor. I gave them a day or two to burn and and see if that would help. It didn't, so I got a replacement from Amazon. Much much better, but still a little suspicious buzz in the right monitor when the IEMs were plugged in with no sound playing. But that wasn't an issue. Over the course of a month using them however, the right monitor would frequently cut out, with lots a static. For a while I blamed my phone and computer for having bad ports from previous use. It eventually got so bad that I couldn't even use them. I took the 4 pin to 3 pin adapter from the RE-600 and used it with a pair of generic Samsung earbuds. The Samsung's had no issues with either me playback devices or the plug from the RE-600 adapter. After more experimenting, I discovered the static and cutting out seemed to be coming from interference through the fabric cable of the RE-600 when the cable would touch different surfaces (or people) or if it would touch itself.Edit: So I no longer think it was an interference issue, I think it's just that these earbuds are poorly designed and are guaranteed to fail sooner or later. I revived my THIRD pair of these directly from the manufacturer recently, and they too have stopped working properly. HIFIMAN knows how to make and IEM sound good, but needs to work a lot on making them last.

One side doesn’t work.
I have many nice earbuds. This one is ok with the price. The reason for a three star is that one side does not work well at my first use. I have to twist the wire to make it work both sides.
