Marrying Winterborne (The Ravenels Book 2)

A captivating, romantic and passionate love story
After being somewhat disappointed by Cold-Hearted Rake, I LOVED this book! It reminded me in so many ways of the wonderful Wallflowers and Hathaways series.Ms Kleypas writes some of the dreamiest self-made heroes in Historical Romance and I’m adding Rhys Winterborne to that illustrious list. I love how, from the moment he meets Helen, this big, arrogant, ruthless Welshman is totally crazy about her and complete putty in her hands.Helen reminds me so much of Evie in The Devil in Winter. At first, she appears sweet and shy but soon reveals an inner strength and I love how she is more than a match for Rhys in her own quiet, determined way. She knows who and what she wants and is bold enough to go after it. Rhys is surprisingly romantic and I love how he treats Helen with total adoration; woos her and shows such tenderness and caring. The scene where he shows her his special gift is just beautiful and utterly romantic. It had me sighing dreamily. I love his reaction when Helen shares her darkest secret with him, believing he wouldn’t want her anymore. It made me love him even more.Ms Kleypas’s love scenes are sensual but also full of emotion and tenderness.Helen’s combination of naivety and burgeoning boldness is so endearing and I love Rhys’s down-to-earth answers and explanations.I enjoyed all the smaller details we discover like Helen’s love of orchids and Rhys’s love of peppermint creams (a favourite of mine too). Living in Wales, I adore the Welsh endearments Rhys uses like “Cariad” and “Bychan” and, being English, I appreciated the glossary provided in the Author’s Note. There is a wonderful cast of secondary characters who enrich the story and are all deserving of their own stories. There is West who has renounced his former rakish ways in favour of muddy boots and breeches; the quirky, irrepressible twins Pandora and Cassandra; Rhys’s enigmatic friend Severin and Dr. Garrett Gibson, determined to succeed in a male dominated profession and provides one of the best quotes in the book:“This is Mr. Winterborne. The one with the department store. He needs to be treated by a real physician with experience and proper training, not to mention—”“A penis?” she suggested acidly. “I’m afraid I don’t have one of those. Nor is it a requirement for a medical degree. I am a real physician, and the sooner I treat Mr. Winterborne’s shoulder, the better it will go for him.”Ms Kleypas captures the Victorian world perfectly, painting vivid images, whether it be clothing, food, Rhys’s department store or the grimy London tenements.Like everyone else, I’m so excited about the next book, Devil in Spring, which features Pandora as the heroine and I think it’s common knowledge among Lisa Kleypas fans that the hero of this book is Gabriel, Lord St. Vincent, Sebastian and Evie’s (The Devil in Winter) son. I love the idea of revisiting favourite characters from The Wallflowers series and I’m hoping that Gabriel will be “a chip off the old block”. Unfortunately, I will have to wait until 21st February 2017 to find out.MY VERDICT: A captivating, romantic and passionate love story, wonderful characters and lyrical, evocative writing make this a must read for anyone who loves Historical Romance. Highly recommended!

4 Very Happy Stars!
I've certainly been in the mood for HR books recently and this fits the bill perfectly. Kleypas' writing style as well as her characters draw you in from the start and keep your attention. The main characters in this, soft spoken and gentle Lady Helen Ravenel, and commonborn, super wealthy and somewhat jaded Rhys Winterbone, are a perfect fit. Both characters are great, Helen has a quiet strength that ensures you like her, and lordy, broody and passionate Rhys is fab in this. There was the potential for some serious angst in the latter half of the book, but the fact that it doesn't manifest, actually works with the characters Kleypas has created here. Also I know a lot of the characters are introduced in the first book, and a part of this story emerges there, but I think you can get away with reading this before/without the first book. This book is staying in my re-read pile as is the third.

In the words of West "I feel thoroughly wooed"
And she's back!Lisa has proved that she still has what it takes. This was one of my all time favourite novels she has written. The first novel in this series 'Cold Hearted Rake' was not to my liking and I left a review as to why but this book I knew in my gut would be an all time keeper. I pre ordered the kindle and paperback versions months ahead of time so happy that I did.I won't go into plots and spoilers but what a fantastic couple 'Rhys and lady Helen' are. The chemistry is magnetic between them. They are so suited to each other a perfect balance of intense mutual love I felt it to my core, if there was a swoon-omitor I think it's gone broke!!!!Rhys brings Helen out from her shell and adores and wooes her fully as she so craved. Helen shows Rhys the gentle loving side of life that he is worth more than he assumes for himself with that passion and unconditional love that they share for each other is what sets the pages on fire in the true Lisa Kleypas stlyle. You are never reading just a book with her it is always a visual with such superb scene setting you feel you are there an extra on set!The whole story played out so well and I liked Kathleen this time around she has definately thawed out and found she fit with the family much better. All the other characters were wonderful in their own eccentric and quirky styles. The compassion and love for each other jumps off the pages and draws you in, you just can't help loving them all!Looking forward to the next instalment 'Devil In Spring' with a few Characters from past novel (Devil in Winter) in their mature years which will be a pleasure to read.Thank you to Lisa, you really are the best! Love, love, love, love this book, did I mention I love this book!!!!!!Just going to go back and read it a hundred times more!

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is a breathtaking book - it is the second book in The Ravenels series and I loved every minute of it. It is a well thought out and entertaining story which can be read as part of the series or as a standalone.Rhys is my perfect romantic hero, in looks and manner. Such poetry in some of the things he says to Helen, although he tells her he is not soft hearted or romantic his words and actions belie this and there are some lovely moments.Helen is beautiful, gentle and kind but she is no pushover and has a will of steel when it is needed. The other main characters are interesting and well rounded and, no doubt, have books of their own. Secondary characters are also fully rounded with personalities and distinctive temperaments.A very good read and a peppermint cream recipe at the end! What more could you want?

I really enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to read the next in the series. Helen and Winterborne are fascinating characters. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Rhys was absolutely delicious give me a Welchman any day over an English gentleman
MARRYING MR. WINTERBORNE is a standalone read with a happy ever after. There are lots of very moving sex scenes if that is an issue for you. For me it made the story. I LOVED this hero. I realize with almost 1500 reviews no one except maybe the author will ever read it but I have to write something. I loved this story. It is full of a great love story, sensual scenes as a very viral man introduces a virgin to the act of love. GREAT STUFF.Rhys is from Wales. Looked down on all his life he is wealthy beyond figures. His "Winterborne" is fashioned after Harrods. He is feared as well as respected. He will never really mix with the titled group of England but they do admire him and long for his wealth. He has fallen in love with a young innocent. She has been raised out of the social world of England. She has been kept in the country with her two sisters and looked over and protected. They have no idea of the ways of men. They are truly innocents.Helen is very attracted to the rough Welsh. Having never even been kissed or had a boyfriend she doesn't quite know what to do with him. He on the other hand has a lot of experience with women. They have always been available to him, including the titled ladies that want a "bit of rough". That sport is no longer a part of him. He wants HelenOf course the path is not without issues. Helen is in a terrible spot and she knows when she tells him her fairy tale love with disappear. She doesn't want to lose him but she refuses to lie to him. She will sacrifice her love instead of living a lie and hoping he never finds out. However there is someone threatening her if she doesn't give him money. Now, I LOVED how Rhys handled the threaten man and I would have loved to see him do what he threatened. This scum of the earth took up way too much oxygen. GREAT story and very entertaining read. I loved it and I highly recommend it.I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do i know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 9/20/2020

A lot of good tension, disappointing pay off
This story has an unexpected twist that makes it really interesting to read. The tension builds and builds toward a #spoiler alert# confrontation between the two lovers but it's resolved without so much as heated discussion! Disappointed

“... like a hint of perfume lingering in a quiet room”.
