Does that sony unit have automatic shut off when rewind, ff, or played to the end? [as others do not and thus the batteries drain dead.]

It is a "Sony" which is one of the very best brands. I am not positive about the warranty. I have 2 of these....bought long ago. I never had any problem with either of them. I think it would depend on where you bought them from , like Amazon - has a wonderful return policy and warranties. I might have bought a used one from ebay, and that would only have a 30 day warranty or whatever the seller promised. Good Drug Stores used to sell them , too...for about $20.00--$30.00 and I didn't worry about a warranty, just new, good brand and the wonderful use you will get out of it when you need to record simple voice in the car, in the house. I write and get inspired at the worst times to write words on paper, so a voice-activated recorder. Buy lots of Micro-sized cassettes, or reuse them over and over. It will not record at a long distance, I don't think. Direct voice is perfect. In a room, yes, I can promise will be good.

This recorder is about as good as it gets when it comes to dictating. The recorder is easy to use, has great clarity and, unlike other recorders I have recently purchased (and either threw out or returned broken), it actually operates as it should. I am pleased that one is still able to purchase a quality mini cassette recorder in this world of digital recorders.

I've used several hand-held microcassette recorders regularly over the years, and this small Sony might be the best. Its only rival is a Panasonic now out of production. This compact Sony has strikingly good sound, even when the source isn't right up to the mike. It is light and easy to use. My only quibble is a playback button that sometimes resists. You might need to press it twice to make it stay down. And every once in a while it pops back up during recording, and you have to press it down again. But these issues with the button are rare. The product is very good.

Product does not work. Batteries that came with it were old and leaking in packaging. Installed new batteries and recorder would not run, record, forward or rewind, spindle does not turn with or without tap
