Rembrandt: His Life & Works in 500 Images

The book was a gift and it was truly a beautiful book. It wasn't packaged as well as it should have been because the shipping box was too large and since the book slid around the dust jacket got a little bent. Thank goodness it wasn't too bad so I pressed the book under some heavy things for a few days. Please package with a little more care.

I gave this book to my sister as a Christmas present. She loved it!

Wordless in front of it. Very finely printed -- much more delicate than most of the books I've seen in UMich library(not fair comparison though: those books are old). The page layout were designed just like the walls of an art gallery -- paintings sided by a block of guiding interpretations. Very much amazed me as an amateur. Of course I'm not speaking as an knowledgeable person to the tiniest extent but I just love it!

The book was given as a gift so I haven't read it. The recipient is enjoying it immensely.

My wife bought this book and she absolutely loves it. It's a heavy, well-built book that should last forever. The pages are resistant to mold and mildew. The color photographs within the book are excellent. If you want to know more about Rembrandt and his art, then this is the perfect book.

Awesome book. Painting are vivid. Everything is well done.

My husband is an artist, and Rembrandt is his favorite. This was a gift for him. He isn't reading it straight through but picks it up every few days to study and ponder. I'd say the gift was a hit!

I loved the quality of the book and the art works looks very good as well.The book describes not only the life of rembrandt but also the general life at the time rembrandt was born and raised.this is a must for all art lovers and fans around the world.

Excellent book, superbly illustrated.

Books by Hermes House are extremely well produced and sold at rather unbelievable prices (compared to other books of this kind). I bought a fair number of them so this review is about their books on artists as well as history and culture. Each book is written by an expert in the field and tries to provide the reader with a generalized but not superficial understanding of the subject. The illustrations are aptly chosen and support the textual content well.These are meant to be primarily pictorial works and therefore the books have been designed to speak about their subject matter through pictures supported by words. And they succeed on both counts. Some books that are about culture and history work the other way round as well. Either way, the relationship between pictures and words are always appropriate in the context of the subject matter. Considering the prices they are giving this at, I would recommend interested buyers to snap them up lest they suddenly hike their prices.

The images are very clear and the book had a lot of information that I didn’t know about him

I haven't read this book myself, I bought it as a gift for someone who said she wanted to learn more about art and artists from that era. She has told me she loves this book and is thoroughly enjoying it, and it isn't too technical for someone with limited previous knowledge. It certainly has some wonderful illustrations.
