Windmill Window Air Conditioner - Quiet & Smart. Easy Install, Voice-Enabled, Remote & App Control AC Unit - 12,000 BTU Inverter w/WhisperTech

This was a super easy install. My husband was able to install it in less than 20 minutes. It’s VERY quiet. My regular fan is louder than this unit on high. It cooled the room quickly as well. The app was very easy to setup, intuitive and fast. Aesthetically… probably the best looking window unit I’ve seen. Very impressed and definitely recommend.

UPDATE 14 JUL 2025 Nearly 1 year after purchase, used approx 14 weeks combined and this unit is completely DEAD. Around 1 am this morning the unit began flashing and dropped temperature to 60⁰F. When I tried adjusting temperature, the unit turned off. Tried power button, nothing. Unplugged, replugged, tried again. Nothing. Unplugged and decided to try at 5am (when I get up for work). Nothing. For the price point, I certainly expected to get more than 3.5 months of use. INITIAL REVIEW: After 24hrs of use the manual buttons do not work. Cannot turn ac off or on. Cannot adjust temperature. Cannot adjust speed. Cannot select an alternate mode. The remote is semi-responsive: can turn on/off, cannot adjust temperature, cannot select an alternate mode, can adjust fan speed. Additionally, condensation has built up and dropped onto my floor, causing damage. This was so easy to install on my own and looks good too! I love the thoughtfulness of the vanity screen covers - which also helps to block out light. The machine certainly cools well and is very quiet.compared to my last ac. Unfortunately, not being able to customize my comfort is a huge downside.

I’ve had my Windmill AC for two months and could not be happier with its ability to quickly cool my studio apartment, its quiet nature, its efficiency from an energy standpoint, the technology / smart compatibility, and customer service. The unit arrived promptly within two days after purchasing from Windmill, and being someone who supports small businesses, buying directly from the company’s store on Amazon was an added bonus to an already great product. Setting up the AC was seamless and straightforward, with concise yet detailed directions that made the installation process stress-free and quick. The ancillary items provided with the unit (insulation, adhesive foam, hardware, etc.) were great and more than enough to safely and efficiently set up the AC (and required no trips to the hardware store that were all too common with past units I have purchased). From start to finish, I was able to set up the AC unit in under an hour, and contrary to other units I’ve owned that were oversized or required an abundance of foam / installation to prevent cold air from escaping the room, the items provided were more than enough to secure the unit, insulate the room, and make the unit look great. In terms of output and performance, the Windmill AC unit exceeded my expectations from the start, quickly cooling my studio apartment that often gets very warm during the late afternoon. The fact that the air flows up from the unit, versus straight out like many other brands, enables you to cool down a room with tall ceilings or awkward dimensions (very deep room etc.). The “eco” feature is another positive that I’ve loved about Windmill as it balances energy consumption via fan speed and desired temperature to maximize efficiency. Lastly, I spoke to a Windmill representative about the “smart” setup given my disdain with technology, and he went above and beyond to ensure I could operate and monitor the unit from my smart phone – something that I would never have been able to figure out. Overall, I highly recommend this AC unit for anyone looking to have a powerful yet efficient machine and guaranteed easy installation process, not to mention the exceptional customer service and support of small business.

There is simply no other AC like this one on the market. Full stop. Not only does it cool a room in minutes, but it actually looks good mounted in your window. I'd say it looks more like a high-end speaker from Apple or Bose, rather than an AC, which are usually ugly and simply serve their purpose. Plus, the attachments and trim really make it feel complete in the wall. I love being able to control it via the app on my phone, so if I'm miles from home, I can turn it on and walk into an air-cool apartment. I like it so much that I bought one for my bedroom and another for the living area at the front of my condo. I highly recommend. Slick looking. Quiet. Powerful.

Edit: This fall (2024) when I removed the unit for the winter, it was no longer working. So why the still high rating? I worked through the Amazon system to discuss the issue with Windmill and they asked for some photos of the unit. It showed two errors, F0 and F8. I could not find any info on what the problem might be, and when they saw these images of the errors on the unit screen, they offered a full refund or replacement. I took the refund since I won't need it again until June or July. It was all very easy. So given their handling of the situation and the quality of the unit, I will still consider another next summer. I won't do it again if it fails again, but they really did stand behind their product. Original: This AC is quite efficient and for that I love it. It's also reasonably quiet. But only reasonably. I measured it and it met the stated specs, but the reality is that even this seemingly quiet AC is pretty loud when set to full cooling (highest fan setting). Now, that's not to say it's loud, just loud when I need to be working e.g. on zoom calls. Again to be fair, those on the other end don't hear it. And in fact it may be pretty quiet commpared to other machines. It's just that I had high expectations given the ad copy. In short, I'm mostly happy with this unit, and it is almost certainly much less expensive to run (power consumption is low by many standards). The lower running cost is actually much more important to me in terms of my footprint on power consumption overall. If I can get the same cooling at a much lower power useage, why not? Hope this is helpful.

The windmill is sleek, relatively quiet compared to other ACs, and easy to install. Such a great purchase!

We bought a much-anticipated Windmill 12K BTU AC unit after much research and consideration. We were expecting an esthetic choice; a powerful unit; and a relatively silent unit (said Whisper Tech technology). After great pains in removing our previous 6+ year old dusty LG unit and installing the Windmill, and less than 24 hours later, the unit is defective and broken. It's been leaking inside (which I read could be a dangerous refrigerant leak); it's not cooling anything down any longer; it's making a terrible rattling noise, that's on par with the old dusty LG unit; and after spending over 2 hours troubleshooting, it's yielded nothing. We now have no AC in the middle of a heatwave (100F/40+ Celsius). The unit is not in stock / stock is on the other side of the country for Amazon, so we need to wait 10-12 days for a new unit (return option) or wait 14 days for a pricey return to be processed (refund option). All round, this has been a terrible customer experience: terrible product, terrible response from the seller ("nothing more we can do, you need to talk to Amazon"), terrible customer service troubleshooting, especially for a product that is pricey, cumbersome, and so fundamental to the wellbeing/health of customers.

Excellent unit. Arrived undamaged and was a snap to install. The decorative side panels make for a cleaner look than most ac units, and they even include scissors to help cut them down to size (nice touch). We have a townhouse and our hvac unit is getting old, cooling the upstairs bedroom is a chore so we added a window unit. The unit cools the room nicely and is very quiet with a nice clean look in the window. It is very energy efficient and the app allows you to control from your phone as well as view energy usage which is minimal. This is my second windmill. Very pleased and would recommend to friends.
