Excellent quality copper vessel with terrible kalai (tin lining)
The buying process and delivery was great. The quality of the copper by looks and weight is excellent. I haven't measured the thickness yet but this seems to be at least 2mm thick which is excellent. Quality of the kalai is atrocious to say the least. When cooking for the first time, taking all precautions that you have to when cooking with tin lined copper vessels (this wasn't my first time cooking with copper vessels), my wooden spoon started making black lines at the bottom of the vessel as the oil started to heat. By the end of the cooking process, I could already see some exposed copper. On the very first use! By the third time of cooking I can already tell that I need to do retinning. Living in the US this is not an easy task as I have to do it myself.Additionally, the cost of purchasing this in the US is ridiculous. It costed me at least 3 times what I would've paid for it in India.I would highly suggest that if you're in India, please go to a local market and buy a copper lagan in person. Just make sure that the quality of the copper is good and the thickness is decent. Do not ever buy this particular item from Indian Art Villa. I made the mistake of buying it despite the seeing the other horrific reviews because it was being sold by Amazon and this was one of the very few options to buy a lagan of this size directly in the US.If you're in the US, please wait till the next time you go to India. Take an empty suitcase and go purchase good quality products in person from local shops.Kudos to the quality of the copper materials wherever they were sourced from, but shame on Indian Art Villa for allowing such pathetic kalai to pass through quality control, specially at the ridiculous price you charge for international buyers. SHAME ON YOU!
