TROPICA - Small Orchid Tree – Pink (Bauhinia monandra) - 10 SeedsWorth knowing: This wonderful, small tree with its large flowers looking almost like real orchids is a real eye-catcher for every tub. In nature, the many flowers are almost 4 months, from early winter until late spring, on the tree. They are red-pink coloured with yellow lips first and turn into a bright pink colour later on. The plant can be cultivated indoors. It should be moved in a bright position then, planted in loose standard soil and sufficiently supplied with fertilizer but few water. The small orchid tree sheds its wonderfully lobed leaves in winter. Origin: Originally a native of Madagascar, the Bauhinia monandra is indigenous to South America today. Propagation: The seeds can be started indoors at any time throughout the year. The Bauhinia is easily raised from seeds. Either slightly roughen the seeds with sandpaper or leave them to soak in water for 24 hours. This is not a must-do, but will shorten the time for germination. Press the seeds 1-2 cm deep into moist cultivation soil and keep evenly moist (not wet). First seeds already germinate after 2-4 weeks. Place / Light: The plant loves lightly shaded to full sunny positions. Care: The orchid tree thrives excellently in loose, fertile and permeable ground. It develops a short stem and pruning (after flowering) is only necessary if the plant is growing too strongly. Water regularly and supply the plant with tub plant fertilizer every 3 weeks from the beginning of April until the end of August. Winter period: The plant has a very low tolerance for frost and sheds its leaves in autumn, when placed in cooler and drier locations. If space is available, overwinter the plant at 12° to 18°C. Water slightly. Bonsai Suitability: No
