It truly does lay flat. The cover is soft and supple and the pages are smooth. Writing on it with my fountain pen and nib is a dream. There’s no bleed through either! Review: Nice leather and binding, but date font is unreadable and lies are spaced too far apart - This Journal / notebook seems well-constructed and is attractive. I would prefer that the "wide rules" we're so "wide." In other words, the lines are farther apart than I anticipated. It is described by the seller as "Executive" (which I am), but gaps between the lines remind me of elementary school and waste precious space. The main reason I returned it, though, was that the date options at the top are printed so faintly and in such a small font as to be unusable. I was specifically looking for this type of dating, where all months and dates are printed at the top of each page and you circle the ones that describe the date of your notes. That system in my opinion is the best for what I do. Unfortunately, the tiny washed-out looking font makes that completely unusable. I sent it back and received great service.

Softest paper ever
I LOVE this journal. It truly does lay flat. The cover is soft and supple and the pages are smooth. Writing on it with my fountain pen and nib is a dream. There’s no bleed through either!

Very durable!
I love it, it has held up to me carrying it everywhere and not writing in it (writer's block!)

Great design, but paper is extremely thin
I love the leather cover and the elastic band that holds the journal together. The elastic slots into this little cutout to keep it in place, and the area around the cutout is reinforced to ensure it doesn't wear down. Bookmark ribbon is very useful. However, the paper is extraordinarily thin, to the point that writing either causes it to rip, or severely indent the pages behind the one you're writing on. Be sure to write with a light hand
