A natural product that works
I began using JFM but have sensitive skin. I had slight burn after a few uses so decided to stop immediately. I looked at a few natural items and saw this brand available on Amazon.I initially used the dark brown. It didn’t work well. I was getting orange colour on my grey hairs and only lasting a couple of days. I was about to give up but thought I would try the black dye. This has worked great with no irritation. With this product, it took some practice and trial and error to get things the way I wanted. I have a relatively short beard (number 6 on my Remington beard trimmer) and I colour it every 5 days. It’s not as straight forward as chemical dyes but I have found it works just as well. The first thing to mention is that this does take longer. If you need the base then it can take up to an hour whereas the JFM only stayed on for 2 minutes. I find it best to use this around doing something else as opposed to just sitting around waiting to wash it off. The second thing to mention is that this does not work like chemical dyes. This will only colour what it is physically in contact with. Therefore, you have to make sure you cannot see any hair sticking out of the application. It has to be thick with the beard fully underneath the mixture.I find that my beard darkens immediately but continues to get darker over the next 8 hours. I don’t personally get any of the green or purple mentioned. This colour is a dark black and darker than my natural beard. There is no guarantee that the dye will work. You may need to use the base. The dye has not worked for me without the base. I have done some trial and error and I can mix my base in with the black and use it in one application. This is not how they recommend it is used but works for me and I half the time. It works better if you use the base and colour separately but I’m happy with the result and I prefer to have a few grey hairs here and there as it looks more natural. If I use separately then I can get 100% black beard. One of the great things about this compared to chemical products is that this does not colour your skin. I have no irritation at all. I previously had dry skin under my beard but using this product has meant I no longer have dry skin. It’s also worth noting that this product requires a lot less time on the beard than similar natural products which say they need to be on for anywhere between 4 hours to overnight. All in all very happy with this and I like that it is natural.

Good as idea, fail in practice
I was desperate for this to work and with my hopes up with the reviews I have been trying for three weeks now. It did not give me an allergic reaction and I love the just mix with water idea but the positives end there. After the really long twenty minutes this dries into something close to concrete. The mess it creates is monumental. Hair that doesn't lay totally flat on the skin isn't coloured. It's impossible to cover hair on the chin. After all those efforts... the hair goes green for two days. Then orange for another two days. Then it goes back to grey. It doesn't look natural it looks stupid. I will also try the dark brown before I go back to irritated skin but normal looking beard.Update: I have been trying the dark brown for a couple of weeks and I am much happier with it, less green and orange and seems to last a few more days.

Great natural dye that works with some custom tweaks
I initially struggled with this beard dye and ended up buying a bag of the base and then getting frustrating by the amount of time the whole process of washing, mixing and applying base, then washing again and doing the same with the dye. It did work well but ended up looking quite flat, uniform and fake, similar to a conventional hair or beard dye.At last I think I’ve hit on a technique that works for me at least, resulting in a really natural colour, covering the grey and without too much faff. I don’t know if any of these following points are key but they are working for me and don’t seem to be highlighted in reviews or instructions ...- wash your beard with as natural and unfragranted as possible soap, but then dry the beard completely. My theory is that this allows for better absorption, but who knows ... maybe it’s completely irrelevant!- really heat up / boil the water prior to mixing with the dye powder so that the paste is still warm when you start applying it- mix up enough paste that will completely cover the beard. I was having problems with sneaky greys coming through, so really slap a load on the beard so everything is fully submerged!- against the official advice I leave the dye on for 40-45 minutes, then wash off with unscented soap.Immediately after dying the beard doesn’t actually look very impressive ... grey areas somewhat subdued but with a greenish hue, as many have mentioned. But the following morning everything looks brown and natural.Hope this helps. Don’t give up on the dye if it’s not initially giving you the results you want. I was on the verge of going back to chemical dye and happy I gave it a final chance.

Works well and no itching!
This product works: it's natural, non-itchy and used correctly, does indeed dye your beard dark brown. Some won't like the slightly earthy smell or the fact that it's a little messy and takes about 20 minutes to have the desired effect; however, none of these things bother me much - they are much more preferable better than the red, itchy face that Just For Men tends to inflict! Initially, I would say that you might need to dye for two days running to get the right colour, as it tends to dye a shade or two too light before your beard gets used to it (or you have quite a bit of grey.) Also, as you get used to it, don't make the mistake of leaving it on much beyond 20 minutes because there's a risk that your beard will take on a slightly purple hue. Anyway, despite the above advisories, the product is decent and I will buy again.
