EASYCARE 60064 Protec Scale and Stain Inhibitor/Remover, 64 oz. Bottle

Works pretty well, used in my outdoor fountain seem to reduce algae. Not so much with the indoor fountain. Perhaps inside temps. Good price on Amazon.

We have extremely hard water that quickly discolors our three fountains (metal and stone). We tried calcium and lime dissolvers with fair results. Then we tried EasyCare ProTec Scale and Stain Remover and were amazed at the results. It works quickly and keeps stains at bay for months, not days or weeks. I do wish it came in a spray bottle for a more controlled direct application on areas where the build up is more pronounced, but I'll pick up one myself. Looking forward to sitting next to one of our fountains while sipping an iced tea, rather than stressing over lime and scale build-up.

I wish I had taken before and after photos. I used a whole 8oz bottle in a large outdoor fountain that was crusty white everywhere that was splashed by water. Now after a month the white is almost gone in all the areas that are constantly splashed. The areas that receive less splash are still white. I am optimistic that if I clean those areas by hand, EasyCare will keep them clear.

I bought this for cleaning the scale from my outside 3 tiered hand carved mexican fountain. It worked as stated. After a while, the scale slowly disappears and maintains prevention of buildup. I did have to sand/scrape/file the heavy buildup that the Protec couldn't remove but understanding that this buildup was over 6 years old. Expensive but it works, just follow the directions and don't over use it would be wasting the product. My fountain runs 24/7 year around (Arizona) and is 22 years old and looks great. I used to spend 20 - 60 hours trying to remove the scale, the longer I put off the job, the bigger the buildup, the longer/harder to remove, this was before I found Protec. If the treated water can reach the scale, it can remove/dissolve it, I may have to scrape/sand the splash area but it still is easier to remove than not having treated water. Oh, by the way, the humingbirds (lots of them) still can drink and bath in the water without ill effects.

This product does exactly as described, and does it very well. Fountains are a big deal in Newport Coast; we built a couple of large ones, including a rock (river rock) wall, where water flows down at 6K gallons per hour. Prior to using this product, I removed all leaves and debris, drained, and added fresh water, then added some of this product, along with bromine in a floater (bromine has been my choice to prevent algae). After 12 hours of running the pump, the calcium stains began to disappear, and a week later they are about 80% gone -- WITH NO SCRUBBING. Couldn't be happier with the results. Have another fountain with a large mosaic wall and 4 tall ceramic urns -- going to attach that one next -- same way.

So glad amazon continues to carry this product. Best thing I have found for my fountain that is bird friendly
