I listened to an audio book recently that claimed that people who put protective coverings on their chair legs have, on average, a higher life expectancy that people who do not. On the face of it this is an amazing claim, however there is, of course, a difference between correlation of causality. The point that the author was making was that the sort of person who goes to the bother of protecting his / her / their chair legs from the damage of being scraped on a hard floor surface, whether that be tile, slate or concrete, is probably the sort of person who also takes care of themselves and has a high level of control over their lives including healthy eating, exercise and regular check ups.I did not buy this product for the spurious health benefits, however, I bought it because I wanted to make sure that the chairs in my kitchen did not make a horrible scraping sound when you pull them from beneath the kitchen table. They are made of a rubbery plastic material that is probably some petro carbon compound. They fit easily onto chair legs, in my case, the chairs have metal legs and are from Next but I am sure they would work on other types. And yes, they do have the desired effect of making sure that your chair can slide across (in my case) the tiles without sounding like someone running their finger nails down a blackboard. They seem to stay on without glue too as they have ample sleeve length. Apparently they are called "ferrules" which is quite a nice word that sounds like the not very nice word feral (as in stray cat).One word of warning though, by placing these ferrules on your chair leg, it does make it a fraction higher, maybe two to three millimetres which may be a problem if you have precision engineered your chairs so they fit under the table. In my case the arms of my chairs have a slope so they do not push under the table quite as far as they would without the ferrule in place. This is only a slight gripe though and I am pleased with this purchase. And you never know, they may actually make you live longer too.

Product is okay but have worn down after only a couple months occasional use and just split or slip off the chairs. Better than the standard felt pads which come off but could be sturdier. Luckily comes 32 to a bag so I’m just replacing as needed.
