If you're a Writer, you need it
Let's face it, Writer's Market is the one book every writer who expects to market their work will have on their shelf. And annual updates make it a repeat buy (you can get away with skipping a year or two at most). The deluxe, or online, edition includes perks that make it valuable for current authors, such as continual updates, by keeping the information as current as possible. It's also a lot more convenient than lugging ten pounds under your arm. After you've read the stories, hints and helpful columns, it becomes a reference work anyway. Might as well make it as universally useful as Google, Wikipedia or dozens of other references writers use daily.

Still the best way to go.
If you are going to get published , this is still the best way to go. But I am tired of the recycling of the same old articles and examples of letters to agents and publishers . Since I am buying this book every year , I would like to see some fresh material for a change. I assume Writers Market has staff writers. So write.

Comprehensive listings, but the articles need updating
I hadn't purchased this book in a few years. I purchased the "deluxe" edition for the online benefits. The book's listings are comprehensive and I found them useful. However, the accompanying articles are woefully out of date. They looked similar to ones I read in Writer's Market ten or more years ago. Seriously, does anyone really send an SASE anymore? When I left the magazine publishing world twenty years ago, I only saw SASEs from novices who really didn't know what they were doing. Sadly, the truth is that editors assign stories to people they know -- either former staffers they know from current or previous employment, or writers known to other staff members who can vouch for them. Editors want to know that you can deliver what they need, and deliver it on time. Your clips of previous work won't tell them that. And it helps to have access to the magazine's editorial calendar. If you know that the issue ten months from now will focus on X, you can pitch a story on X to the editor and they might be interested...or at least will know that you know something about the magazine.

Too much baloney! The sections on agents was all but eliminated!
There's a lot of filler in this book. Save all the advice to the new author for another book so designated. The near elimination of the agent section appears to be a way to sell another book.. Another complaint is that in a previous, yet recent, issue many publishers contacted are no longer in business. To include them in a subsequent issue should mean its been verified that source still wants to be there. I believe the author publisher needs to work a little harder. Right now, I'm not certain I'll buy next year's issue.

This truly does seem like to place to start learning about freelance writing!
A friend of mine recommended I pick up a copy of this book because I expressed an interest in freelance writing. This book is absolutely filled to the brim with great advice! ... the reason I give it four starts versus five... it almost feels like "information overload"... I am feeling quite overwhelmed but it hasn't drowned my enthusiasm yet! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in breaking into freelance writing... I have since seen this book recommended as "the place to start" in several locations online.

very helpful
I purchased this book and also the 2014 Guide to Literary Agents. Both are marvelous but the really are much the same. I only needed one or the other.

Good, solid resource
This a nice resource for writer's both freelance and book writers (fiction, poetry, essays, creative nonfiction and nonfiction). However, do be careful; there are a few listings that are questionable. Just do your own research during and before you sign on with anyone.

The Writer's Bible.
This is the ideal book for anyone who is trying to publish an article or a book. It lists hundreds of publishers with theiir addresses, phone numbers, and emaiil addresses. The same is true of literary agents. There is also much good advice for new aspiring authors!.

A MUST HAVE for all aspiring writers
This book contains all the updated information you need to get your book or article published. You only need to use it and take massive action to be on the road to success. This may sound like advertising hype...but I wasamazed at the wealth of detailed information...from how to write an effective query letter to who to send it to and how long to wait for a response before sending a gentle reminder. A treasure for writers and would-be writers.
