The Iron Giant Library Binding – 13 Sept. 2011

I'm not commenting on the story, just this particular edition of the book. I bought this for my 5 year old son and chose this edition as I though an illustrated edition would increase his enthusiasm to read the book. For the price I was expecting a magazine / graphic novel sized book with color illustrations printed on glossy paper.The book is actually more like regular paper back novel, though it does have a hard cover. There are a few illustrations throughout the book though most small and mixed in with the text and none are in colour. Also the illustrations within the book don't match the one on the cover which is far more cartoony.If I'd have seen this edition in advance (or perhaps more thoroughly read other reviews) I'd have gone with the regular paper back very for a third of the price.

I’m sure the story is great, but the contents are upside down! Surely this can’t be a problem just for me. Very disappointed as it was for a gift for tomorrow 😢

A bit different from the film which my 6 year old adores. But he was so happy reading the book by himself, he read it over 3 evenings, would get annoyed if we disturbed him.

Laura Carlin's beautifully illustrated version of Ted Hughes' classic tale (far removed from the more saccharine animated film version) should be on every child's bookshelf.
