My husband was like a kid with this. Mounted it on his AR and was stalking around the yard. He said it works great, had great clarity. He could easily identify animals. It was bright and very well made. Great value for the money! Not sure about battery life, yet. He took some video, I'll update it later with those.

At first glance, the build quality is fantastic. I have a couple of conventional optics from Athlon, their customer service has been great and the optics are phenomenal, especially for the price. This unit is light, almost like a normal scope, which was very surprising as my older night vision optics are like anchors. The menu functions are easy to access, the app seems intuitive, and there are several great reticle style and color options that should make it easy for just about anyone to use. One tip, to register the 5 year warranty, it states that the serial number is "on the bottom of the optic", which is not exactly true. The serial number tag is actually on the inside of the forward objective lens cover. The barcode on the serial sticker does not take you to their registration site, nor does it populate the number in the online form, so be prepared to magnify it to make it easier to enter. I'm looking forward to playing with it a bit more, it's a very interesting piece of equipment, especially with the roughly $700 price point!

Bought this because I was always interested in thermal viewers. It does what it says. It is remarkable if you are looking for something with a heat signature. It is not as high-fidelity as other sights I have seen, but it does the job. Overall the device seems heavy-duty and of great quality. It comes with two rechargeable lithium batteries, plus has an internal battery so it can stay powered on while you swap batteries. This all being said, what you are looking at through the scope has to have a heat signature. If it does not, you probably are not going to see it. But that is the limitation of this technology. It is not "night vision", it is purely thermal. If it does not have a thermal signature, then you are not going to see it. It also will not "see" through windows. Overall, I think this is a great piece of implementation of thermal technology for the price. Given the caveats above, I think this an excellent piece of technology and I think that it belongs the inventory of any outdoor enthusiast.

Great scope you cannot mount on anything! The included rail mount is too narrow for every rail I have, and there is no way to change out the hardware to make it work. Lack of a mount makes the scope useless, and a very expensive paper weight.

The instructions are unclear and great if you work for Athlon. I worked for an hour to get my rifle sighted in and gave up. I'll try tomorrow again. It works but sighting in is important.

Athlon makes great optic's! The price point and quality are excellent. There are a lot of cool features on this optic, and it’s pretty easy to setup. If you haven’t heard of Athlon, they make really well built optics. I also own one of their prism optics, and it’s fantastic. If you are on the fence about any Athlon optics, don’t hesitate buying one. They are worth more than what you pay for.

Refresh is slow, but that the ONLY drawback. I have identified hot spots in the Olympic rain forest. The optics are clear and the operation is simple. Excellent choice for the budget conscious.
