These were fairly easy to set up with the FOUR digit combination I chose, so they are a bit more secure from the thief of opportunity. Obviously anyone with even a short handle set of bolt cutters can easily cut these. That isn't the point though. This isn't meant to stop a determined & prepared thief, it's to keep casual passersby honest, and stop or at least slow down the casual thief enough that they move on to an easier target.. The only negative is that the silicone caps provided for color are next to useless. The rolled up or off many times, until I threw them away. I can't say if the TSA alert buttons work, as the backpack I put these on was never searched beyond MY emptying items out at the checkpoints.

Used to secure firearm, and luggage when fly to Alaska. Convenient that you can set you own code. Not big and bulky like others I tried. Seems good quality.

Went on vacation, and used these locks to secure suitcases. The locks worked great, despite passing through 6 airports. Also kept things secure while luggage was transferred from hotel to hotel, no issues. The only difficulty I had is at one point one of the locks would not open with the assigned combination. I thought I would have to retry all combinations, but I guessed that I had inadvertently moved the shackle so as to change the combination. I tried combinations that differed from the assigned one by one digit, and found the one that opened it, then I reset it back to the original combination. Locks will not open if digits are not exactly lined up, but I can't say that is a problem. I don't think the TSA opened the luggage. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

I greatly prefer the type of TSA locks that have four digit tumblers - just a personal preference I suppose. Although I have yet to use them in travel, I believe they will be more than adequate. The only thing I would prefer more is if these had a flexible stainless steel wire loop instead of the solid metal loop just because others I've used in the past have been bent in the luggage handling process, but these will more than do. As to the little stretchy colored identifiers you can put on the locks - Meh. Not really important to me and frankly I believe there's a good chance they'll be gone in rough handling.
