Mirari Portable Night-Light - Danny the Penguin

This is a great nightlight! It has just enough light to make it safe to navigate my baby's room at night. It is enough light to change a diaper if it is right by the table. It is easy to operate and my baby loves the different colors. I put the changing color cycle on sometimes to keep her occupied while I go wash my hands after diaper changes. I also like that if I need it to be a little less bright while I rock and feed her at night, I can turn the glowing part away so the opaque part blocks the light and shines it the other way. I have had it for months and the batteries are still going strong. I like that I don't have another thing to plug into the wall, and you can take this anywhere. Very cute too =-)

Our 2 year old twins love this! They take turns sleeping with it and another cute color-changing night light in the shape of a winged hippopotamus. We like the light colors in this better than the other lights we've tried - the white light is not blinding yet is bright enough for reading a "last story" after the room lights are out, and the pink light is soothing enough to be in the crib beside the kids when they're going to sleep. It's great for travel because it doesn't require its own specific charger and goes a long time on a set of batteries (we use rechargeable eneloop pros and carry a AA/ AAA charger because we have a number of other electronics that take standard batteries).Unfortunately it's not indestructible - I accidentally dropped ours from about 3 feet onto a wood floor and the internal plastic framework fractured in such a way that the battery chambers were pushed back away from the chamber cover plate (batteries no longer made contact on both ends), and though I could pull them into their original position with a fine-tipped clamp, I couldn't figure out a way to secure them in place. So I made disks of wadded up aluminum foil to fill up the extra space between the positive and negative battery connections (effectively making the batteries longer to fill the now-lengthened chambers), and managed to get it to work weakly/ intermittently. Next I followed the advice of a previous reviewer who had fixed a failure-to-illuminate problem by removing the plastic piece covering the metal battery connections on the battery chamber cover and now it's working perfectly again.My only other negative comment is that some of the black paint has worn off the nose, but that's with over a year's worth of heavy nightly use.Despite these issues I think this is a great product worth 5 stars, and I highly recommend it as part of a bedtime routine.Addendum: it got dropped again, and the battery compartment loosened further, destroying my "fix." This time I put crazy glue along the inner part that was sliding away from the battery cover plate and that held it nicely in a similar position allowing the aluminum foil disk trick to work again.Maybe i should give this product less than 5 stars as it's designed for 2 year olds yet easily damaged. However, the fix is easy and it's very satisfying to be able to save the day with a few readily available household supplies.

My daughter is scared of the dark and we love this little penguin. She used to have a flashlight (for when she needed the bathroom or whatever) and a nightlight, but this is just so much better. He doesn't get lost, he's soft and comfortable to touch, doesn't heat up AT ALL and he's super cute so my daughter loves him. Also, since he's so portable and small, he's easy to fade out. We've already been able to establish some ground rules which result in less light than she would have got from the night light. We also had one of those sleep pets, light pillow things, but they're pretty cheap and ours died pretty fast. We've had the penguin for a while now and he's taken some heavy use, but he's in perfect condition and works exactly like he's supposed to.

The penguin is adorable but it DOES NOT WORK! I thought I was crazy when I first took it out of the package, put fresh batteries in, and attempted to turn it on and NOTHING HAPPENED. I tried a different set of batteries. I tested the batteries in a different toy to make sure they worked. Nothing. So I returned Danny, thinking I got a dud. A new one arrived less than 48 hours later - awesome, I thought! But the replacement is also defective. Then I read a review here from a customer saying the same thing happened to her, the battery cover does not make contact properly. So I took matters into my own hands, took the battery cover apart carefully with needle nose pliers and put two pieces of duct tape behind the metal contact points to make them extend further. Put the plastic on the cover back on, and voila - Danny now works, and my 3 year old is happy! I will be contacting the company to express my frustration, but we will be keeping our new improved penguin for now.

Perfect! Easy to use for my 2 years old son. He loves it and feels good with it by his side at night.

I bought this for my 9 month old, and then realised that it was recommended for children 3 years +. However, it seems perfectly safe, and he can operate the light himself. I tend to be with him when we use it as it's part of our bedtime routine, and also very useful to see on one of his many nighttime wake-ups.

Bought this for my 3 month old as wanted a nightlight small enough to take abroad.My little boy loves Danny and he is a very important part of his night time routine.the colours keep him entertained long enough to get him ready for bed.highly recommend him!!!!

My son absolutely loves this night light and as it has no leads i dont have to worry about leaving it low down by his bed so he can turn it on if he wakes in the night. Stands up very well to rough play as well!
