Q: Can it etch ss(painted or not) or anodized al on a slow setting? any examples or pictures of it successfully doing either?

I've tried a couple times with a Zippo; ink, paint and vinyl. Results were negative. In my opinion, the 5.5w optical laser on the S9 just isn't powerful enough to do that particular job.

Q: Can this be used to cut plastic?

Dear customers, of course, you can, just engrave or cut it according to the adjusted parameters. Take for example the following video.

Q: I see cutting through clear acrylic is a no-go, but what if there is a film or vinyl on the clear acrylic, to make it opaque? Wouldn't that work?

If it is colored thoroughly, mixed in with the acrylic, it may work. If the pigment is only on the surface, the pigment would ablate and residual heat may or may not be enough to melt through the acrylic beneath, depending of course on thickness. For cutting acrylic I would highly recommend an infra-red laser such as a CO2 tube.

Q: does this machine cut mirrored acrylic, or colored acrylics (pink, blue, silver, gold etc)?

It is not recommended to cut reflective materials and transparent materials.
