I soaked some rusted drum and guitar hardware overnight and the rust virtualy disappears. Might require a tooth brush and elbow grease to finish the job, but most parts came out perfect without scrubbing. I also recommend a product called "Dry Coat Rust preventative spray" to use hand in hand with this. My process is: Soak > Scrub if required > Put items in a plastic cup > Spray with dry coat > Rotatate cup to coat > Leave on paper towel to dry. Bonus points for being reusable although it does get pretty murky after a few uses.

This product just works. Put it in a container put your rusty parts in, leave it overnight next day no rust. It might take a second soak if the rust is deep. Clean off the first layer before the next soak.
