Great Light with a Short Handle
I love this lantern! I initially bought this for a specific purpose that required it to turn on and off automatically (on at sunset and off at sunrise) which it doesn't do. I simply didn't read the description with enough comprehension! There's an on/off button that must be used for the bright, very bright and flashing modes to work. It's much brighter and a much better light than I'd anticipated. I initially charged it with the USB cord and the light lasted through the night and into the morning as a night light in the bathroom. The next day, I put it into the bright and hot Southern CA sun to charge hanging on a shepherds hook. The directions say to unhook one end of the hanger so the solar panel is fully exposed to the sun. I have many solar lights hanging on shepherds hooks and they get enough light with the handles over the solar panels so I thought this should too even though the handle is very close to the solar panel. I was wrong. It went into the bathroom again that night after being in the sun 12 hours. It was dead in the morning. It's easier to use the USB cord anyway so that's OK but if you're outdoors with it, be sure to unhook one side of the handle so the full solar panel is exposed.I plan to use this on vacations so I can put items into the bottle and eliminate the need for a purse and when we walk to dinner, I can have something vastly superior to a pitiful flashlight. This is also a great emergency lantern to have in case of a loss of electricity (which happens a few times every summer). When we go on car trips, this lantern will be in the car.UPDATE 7/15/16: My husband placed the lantern in a window with indirect sunlight and with the handle disconnected from one side so the solar panel was fully exposed. It fully charged that way and was very bright but again, it didn't last through the night. The only way to have long lasting bright light is to charge it with the USB.

A Safer, Stronger Glow
This solar lamp is perfect for my daughter's room. I like it much better than the brand I currently own since I don't have to worry about it cracking from being knocked over. The main body and handle are made of softer material. This is also a lot brighter (even at the lower setting) and includes a flashing function.I chose the white, because my daughter uses it to read at night. It provides a strong, soft white glow. She can also unscrew the top to put different items inside of it. I found that you can put a little bit of colored tissue paper inside to get a different light effect (see pics). Be sure to only use a smallish scrap of paper that won't overlap on itself (it turns dark when that happens).I appreciate that the lamp also has a charging feature--a must for overcast days. Luckily, this doesn't require a special type of charging cord--a standard USB cable is included and we have others lying around the apt. in case we misplace it.I think I accidentally threw out the charging cord on my other lamp when it ended up in the "cord box" for reorganization. We forgot what that cord went to and since the end piece was so weird, I can't easily replace it.*Complimentary solar lamp provided for testing and review.

Still a wonderful purchase! Durable
The "pinkness" or color of the bottle diminishes when the bright white light is lit. Still a wonderful purchase! Durable, compact and rechargeable!

Good utility lantern, a combination of bright light and waterproof storage
This lantern is the perfect combination of utility light and waterproof storage. It has a lightweight cylindrical shaped body with an LED under the lid that creates a glowing bottle effect. Small items can be put in the bottle for safe storage. The lantern can be charged by solar (approx. 10hr) or USB (approx. 5hr) .I like that I can simply leave it outside during the day to charge while on a camping trip or at home, It has a decent run time of up to 12 hours but since I tend to use my light on the brightest setting, I expect about half that time. The multipurpose use of this lantern makes it valuable indoors and essential for any outdoor use.The button located on top of the lid turns on the LED light There are 3 light modes: Low (50 lumens), High (100 lumens) and Flashing, which could be valuable as a beacon in an emergency situation. I have an issue with the third mode being listed as "SOS' because in the case with most lighted devices, SOS is flashed in Morse code (...---...) unlike the steady flashes of this light. The lantern was surprisingly bright and the silicone body nicely diffuses the light. I like that it produces enough illumination to see the immediate area and not be overly harsh on the eyes. The lantern's bottle body is constructed of a very malleable and durable silicone. It's able to squash down for packing and still be able to spring back up and maintain its shape. I found it difficult to flatten the bottle in a manner that allows the handle to swing underneath and secure the lantern in a compact state for storage. Portability is affected by its inability to collapse evenly and an accordion type design would be perfect here. With the hard plastic lid screwed on tightly, it transforms into a waterproof container. It seems like the word "waterproof" no longer means what it used to and is now more like various levels of water resistance. Anyway, this lantern can handle rain and splashing but not immersion (IPX6 rating)..The bottle is about 6 inches tall and provides a good amount of storage space. I was a little disappointed that the opening was a little too narrow to get my phone through which would have made this lantern exceptional but no dice. Whether I take the lantern camping, hiking, to a bonfire at the beach or use it as an emergency light, I like the convenience of stashing a few essentials in it and use it as a utility kit that I can carry around with me. The lantern is perfect for smaller items that are important which can easily be lost. Depending where I'm using the lantern I would most likely throw in some of the following: keys, medication, water treatment tablets, matches, batteries, pocket charger, snacks or first aid supplies. It's a good lantern with a few minor shortcomings. I received this product at a discount in exchange for an honest review.
