One of the greatest chess books ever.
I got this book, primarily to see the killer Rf6 tactical shot against Pal Benko. Back when i first started out, i thought he gave up his rook for nothing, but now I saw what fischer was up to. The f7 pawn is blocked and cannot go to f5, and if the rook is taken, fischer would play e5, with the unstoppable mate on h7 to follow. Unless nakamura proves me wrong, i doubt another American will win the world title again as nakamura threw away a couple draws against Vidit at the candidates in toronto earlier this year, and missed out by half a point. Fabi threw away the win when he missed an opportunity to win nepo's passed pawn and missing out on forcing tiebreaks vs gukesh.

The Book and I
Hm... When I first decided on aquiring this literary masterpiece, I was quite under the impression that there would be a higher annotation:move ratio. I was wrong, but perhaps that is a good thing. There is a plethora of chess enlightenment within the pages. Knowledge isn't spoon-fed to you, as in many lower-level books, but there are excellent annotations which let us peek into the mind of a chess legend. A chess legend whom, if you are reading this page, you probably adore. The games are ones which Bobby Fischer considers memorable, so therefore they must be pretty great, right? They are! Still, as I mentioned, the annotations aren't spoon-fed to you, so you won't be getting anything out of simply playing over the moves really quickly and glancing at the annotations. You actually have to sit in front of Fischer's opponent and contemplate the moves through Fischer's eyes. C.S.Purdy once said,"If the student forces himself to examine all moves that smite, however absurd they may look at first glance, he is on the way to becoming a master of tactics." I quote him, because, a lot of Fischer's moves come out of nowhere. When going over Bobby's games in endeavor to guess which move comes next, calculating the bizarre moves is beneficial. It's an excellent book if you are a dedicated chess player. Casual chess players won't get nearly as much out of it. In other words, if chess is your hobby, you won't get as much out of it. If chess is your life, then stop reading customer reviews, and just go ahead and purchase the book!

Bobby Fischer's games, in his own words
This book is a collection of 60 games selected by chess master Robert Fischer, and annotated by him. It's a wonderful compendium of games played by him between 1957 and 1967. The literary introductions to the games were written by Larry Evans. Although many of the reasons for the moves in the games are well beyond a player of my level, I still felt like I was made able to understood the strategy behind the moves. Did the book help me improve my own game? Only time will tell. One word of note: The product description here on Amazon says that this book contains the Game of the Century played by Mr. Fischer when he was 15. First of all, the book does not contain the game. Second, Mr. Fischer was 13 when the game was played. Still this is an outstanding book worth owning.

Fun book
My husband and son are really enjoying working through the games in this book. At first it looked too advanced to be helpful for new chess players, but they tried it and it worked for them. They are learning a lot!

Fischer's book in the context of our time.
Bobby Fischer's 'My 60 Memorable Games' is a classic that is finally updated into our modern figurine notation with no other changes made from the original version (save the one useful change the above reviewer noted). It was one of my first read chess books and the notes are the best example of a very-strong grandmaster (who later became world champion) of just enough detail and variations all taken out of his own thoughts. It should not be overlooked that an added and very important ingredient of this books readability is Grandmaster Larry Evan's insightful introductions to each game which helps set the stage for Fischer's own take on what actually happened thereon. For this reason it definitely ranks as one of the very best (and usefully instructive) chess books of its time. I would put some of Botvinnik's, Bronstein's and especially Tal's 'Life and Games' chess books in the same category of greatness. This being said, technology has very-much changed the way that chess is presented and studied by most everyone. (There being software, videos and now streaming media). For young people studying the game today I see this as an early book (much like reading collections by Alekhine, Cabablanca, Nimzovich, and Reti), for you to read on your path to educating yourself towards becoming a better and better player! I hope this doesn't come off as a disparagement of Bobby Fischer's great work in any way - It is simply that there is now more than ever a huge variety of chess products to choose from, a good percentage of which is also great and worthy of the chess buyer's consideration. Beautiful!
Love this book! A must have for any chess aficionado. I went through every game on my chess board from start to finish while relishing Fischer’s incisive, often pithy, commentaries. Wonderful to witness on your favorite board the beauty of chess piece arrangements as they dance to the final death of the king.
