ESV Student Study Bible: English Standard Version, Tan, Cloth Over Board Review: Unfortunate Title - I was completely blown away be the excellent material in the book. "Student" in the title is a superfluous repetition of the word "Study" and gave the absolutely wrong impression that it was going to be a dumbed down version of the regular ESV Study Bible. It gives a lot more meat up front. Footnotes for OCDs are reduced to a microscopic font size: I like reading the enlightening commentary without having to look at more subtitles, like some boring academic thesis. Admire the quality of the pages, completely legible print, binding and high quality of manufacture and layout, and surprise - it is made in the USA. The print is much darker and pleasant to read than more expensive outsourced bibles. Much has been said about the green highlighted "Did you know" questions. They are scattered all over this bible, and generously in the Old Testament, so it is hard to fall asleep on the OT. Now I "Know" how large Israel was during the time of King Solomon, and I was surprised Israel covered a lot of countries now at loggerheads with modern day Israel. There are profiles of people in yellow highlighted boxes, notes in blue, lists in mauve, maps and illustrations make this bible a tasteful technicolor affair. I bought this bible for the 900 "Did you know" (which would itself have merited the purchase) but I got a lot more with this "Student" bible than with my plethora of other ESV study bibles. This unfortunately titled product could actually supersede all other ESV study bibles in popularity in future. No adult prefers carrying a bible titled "Student", which implies incompleteness and lower status. It is one thing to be meek, but quite another to flaunt your meekness. This bible should be re-titled "Essential" Study Bible, or "Basic" Study Bible. There is nothing "junior" about this bible. Are we not all still students, whatever bible we use? I can foresee a larger print version, or even a waterproof one in future. Other than the unfortunate use of "Student", this is really a masterclass of a study bible. On another thread, it bodes well for the US economy if it can produce such a high quality bible with so many features at such a highly competitive price. Review: Great Study Bible! Give It To Your Teens! - Great study Bible. I'm the youth minister at my church and I get all of our youth these Bibles for their baptisms. The kids love it. We teach the Bible and they read it during Sunday school and youth group, but often times they don't read it at home. I work at a Chinese church so many of the parents are not fluent in English and/or new/non-Christians. Because of that they can't get help in studying the Bible at home. Also the ESV is a very good translation, but it isn't the easiest one to read to someone not used to reading that style. This study Bible really makes the Bible less intimidating by telling them what some of the more complicated/difficult verses mean, giving definitions/explanations of words/terms/locations, giving overviews of books, and more. There are a lot of study Bible or special edition Bibles out there that are pretty much fluff, but this one provides a pretty robust amount of tools to assist young people in reading the Bible. Also, it's bigger than a thinline, but still very portable.

Great Study Bible! Give It To Your Teens!
Great study Bible. I'm the youth minister at my church and I get all of our youth these Bibles for their baptisms. The kids love it. Great Bible!
I love this Bible. It is pretty, colorful, detailed, easy to read (visually appealing fonts/sizes/colors) and the study notes make it a great resource during Bible studies. I also really like the ESV translation because it is simple but still true to the original meaning of the text and very eloquent. One of my favorite things is the chapter overview before the chapter begins. This is particularly helpful because my church preaches through whole books of the Bible and I do Bible studies on whole books of the Bible so it is cool to read about what is happening in the chapter and see if the themes that I picked up on are the same as what other students of the Word think.

A great Bible for a Beginner
Even though by most standards I am an old man, I recently received Christ as my Lord and Savior. I wanted to catch up with other church members my age and younger so I ordered the ESV Student bible. I love this bible and read it every single day now. On the page below the scripture I find explanation in layman's terms so I can better understand the holy words. Not only that, being an Amazon Prime member I received my bible so quick I couldn't hardly believe it. I was hesitant to pay for a Prime membership but it wasn't long before I could honestly say I had no regrets! So if you are new to the Christian faith and still not weaned, you will really enjoy the ESV student study bible.

It was good, only issue was so big to carry.
The book was good but it was extremely big and heavy to carry. I like NIV better. I do casually sometimes read ESV to compare but NIV seems to be easier to understand.

Great choice for us
We have been purchasing the ESV version for High School/College students. It is very comprehensive and the commentaries are helpful. The physical book is nice and durable, good to take with you when you leave home. But I have to admit, this works for anybody who really wants to study the Word. It is not dumbed down to make it 'fit' a teenager. It is understandable and full of information that can ignite your curiosity and search for more. I recommend this Bible for anyone whether newly Christian or someone who's just searching for more in depth learning.

Helpful book to learn about the Bible
Although the pages are thin, the Bible is about makes up for that! As a new Christian, I have been trying to learn the word of God, yet faced the challenge of understanding words, etc. This book gives details to explain in "today's words" what the verse means. Some verses are still difficult for me to understand, but there is also a glossary that is helpful as well as an index at the back of the book. You can look up a topic, such as prayer, and the index has all the pages that topic is talked about, so you can learn more that way. What is cool is you get to know different people of the Biblical times, in a profile box that explains who they are. The print is small as bibles are. So, I wanted to know how to study the bible, well there are several sections in the back of the book such as how to read a bible, how to apply it to your daily life, etc.

Gives great historical context, bios are useful, and the commentary helps you understand anything that might be unclear at first
