I love these!!! Eaten them since I was a kid and the flavour and texture is still exactly the same. I could eat the entire box in one sitting if I had zero willpower. I do find it incredibly hard to stop at just one through. They do, however, seem to be smaller in size and they are quite fattening at approximately 178 calories per rusk. But boy are they so yummy and comforting when you just want to relax and have a coffee and a treat. For those who have never had one of these and haven’t got a clue what they are, they are sort of like a chunky rustic biscotti/ biscuit that you’re meant to dunk in your coffee. They are hard, hence why they need softening by dunking in a hot drink before taking a bite. But don’t dunk for too long otherwise it’ll go soggy and separate, and end up sinking to the bottom of your coffee mug and turning to mush. You’ll have to learn what the perfect dunking time is for yourself through trial and error. The buttermilk flavour is mildly sweet and my personal favourite, but muesli is also delicious. I’ve never ever tried the other flavours after all these years because I just love the buttermilk flavour too much to deviate. These might not be to everyone’s liking but they certainly hit the spot for millions of South Africans. So it’s worth giving it a try at least and seeing what you think.
