You will most likely need to make modifications
I bought this Panasonic microwave from Home Depot but they did not sell the recommended trim kit. So I bought it here on Amazon and it fit just fine. Installation is super easy even though the instructions are lacking. They just give pictures with minimum instructions (my wife said that's because guys don't read instructions anyways). Unless your opening is exactly the same size as the trim kit, you will most likely need to make some modifications to your opening. Jump ahead in the instruction to where you install the mounting pins into the trim. Now measure the distance between the pins from side to side. Then measure the distance between the pins from top to bottom. Now, install the four corner bracket mounts into your opening (it's only 2 screws each). Once you have them installed, measure the distance from the center of the hole in the mount to the center of the hole in the other mount from top to bottom, and from side to side. Make sure those measurements match the ones you took from pin to pin installed on the trim. You can be off by a small margin (no more than 1/8th because the tabs that go in the mounting bracket have a little wiggle room. My width was fine but my height was off so I had to cut out an extra 1/2 inch across the top. After that, the trim snapped right in. You ARE going to have a gap around the trim. It's not made to fit snug. I suppose that's for 2 reasons. First, this trim fits multiple models. Second, if it fit too sung, when you opened the door, it would bind against the side and most likely bend the trim. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the look. I would have preferred something solid looking but those slots are how it vents.

Attractive and gets the job done.
I was able to adapt this to my microwave opening, although I had to be creative. Not because of any problem with the trim kit, but because of the structure of the cabinetry.

An Attractive Trim for the Panasonic Micorwave
The trim kit is very attractive. It is metal, versus the usual plastic. That said, I found the installation instructions to be near worthless. My challenge was I needed to enlarge my previous built-in opening to accept the trim kit. The microwave fit without any required alteration to the opening-not the trim kit. All told the trim kit took me nearly 4 hours to install. The opening needs to be near 28 1/2 by 17 3/8. The directions are universal for five different trim kits. There are several pages showing installation for the several kits. When I look at them, they require the same dimensions and steps. So, lots of wasted and confusing pages. Obviously, make sure your cut-out is square and level (either for true- level or for the cabinetry). The trim kit also comes with a base mount for the built-in microwave. Also, screwing the clip receivers into the space was difficult, due to tight space and small screws. The trim itself has a lip at the bottom that I mistakenly thought would sit on the bottom edge of the cut-out. It does not sit-it floats. The kit also includes a vent, that you will need to fold and assemble. It is well designed, but the directions were not totally clear to me. When the vent is mounted on the microwave the fit (into the cut out) is very tight. There were lots of dry run assemblies when we installed the microwave and trim kit. Initially the trim kit sat too low and interfered with the microwave door. This was just one of several dry runs. As I said, it took about four hours (trying to make everything fit and level). Installation involved much effort and blood loss (there are very sharp edges). I took a star off for lack of clarity in the directions. There are no YouTube to help.

Looks nice but terrible installation design
This trim kit is good manufacture quality and looks good when installed. But beware...if the cabinet holding your microwave is not precisely the size indicated for installation you will not be able to install the kit as specified. This is because the hangers for the trim frame plug into receptacles that must be installed in precise locations at each corner of the cabinet hole. If the hole is the wrong size you can't attach the recepticles in their proper location and the frame won't hang as designed. I had to chuck the hangers and design my own hanging method using wood blocks and drilling small holes into the frame edges. Further, the frame comes with a sheet metal baffle that is intended to be fixed to the microwave side vents and direct exhaust forward (from side to the front) - so moisture won't build up in the cabinet. This adds to the microwave's dimensions and presents another problem if the cabinet dimensions are smaller than specified in the trim kit directions. Worst yet, the sheet metal baffle is supposed to attach to the microwave using one of the appliance's rear screws, per the directions. But these screws are tamper-proof, requiring a specialized torx driver to remove or tighten. I had to eliminate the baffle as I could not attach it. Needless to say whoever designed this trim kit ought to go back to engineering school for remedial training. The design is awful!

Love this trim kit
This was the perfect finishing trim kit for my recently purchased Panasonic NN-SD997S Genius "Prestige" 2.2 cu ft. The installation needed to be customized by me to fit the cabinet where my previous Microwave/convection oven was installed. I liked the way the microwave was vented with this trim kit. I did not use the supplied tape to attach the top vent, but instead used some aluminum duct tape I had on hand. Also, since my opening was not the exact size specified I was unable to use the clips, but instead, after carefully positioning the trim on the installed microwave to balance the opening, I drilled four holes in the trim and fastened it to the cabinet using small head screws. You can barely notice them and the trim fits solidly on the cabinet. It looks very high tech and seems to function perfectly. While a bit expensive, the kit is substantial and provides excellent venting. Thanks to all the other reviewers who gave good advice.

Sufficient but poor value
If you want the Panasonic oven and you want to install it as a cabinet built in, then this is really your only option and at the end of the project you should be relatively pleased. As others have pointed out in their reviews however the final fit is not uniform and is not as advertised. In the picture of my completed install you can see the same gaps around the oven that others have complained about. In my case the top gap and bottom gap are different as well. If you look close into the gaps you can even see the duct work, but you really have to be looking. As long as you aren't really thinking about it, it looks fine and I imagine guests will not notice the shortcomings. My install was not particularly difficult. I did fold the side duct backward first pass which resulted in a little more difficulty getting a flush install on the oven. I ended up using duct tape to seal the seams well. My frame opening was almost exact to the required specs - I just had to move my mounting brackets in 1/8" on each side. The brackets themselves, while sturdy enough, don't seem to have been designed to account for typical cabinet board width. I had to install blocks to mount them as shown in the pictures. Otherwise, the front holes did not line up with the cabinet. My total install didn't take much more than 30 minutes including cutting custom blocks to anchor the mounts. I'm happy enough with the final look to offer 3 stars, but the product - especially at this price - is not top notch.

Looks great, easy to install. Gives a nice finished look.
The space between the microwave and the trim is larger than expected, but it looks nice and does exactly what you'd expect. This is more to this than just the trim plate, not much more though...it has a base plate, and ducting for the microwave exhaust/cooling fan. The only thing I don't like is that the tape used to attach the vent doesn't stick well. You can't see it and the screw holds the duct from coming off att the way so it not causing any problems so far.

Fits Well, Looks Nice
Relatively easy to install, fit well and looks. There are two minor issues: (1) took me awhile to figure out how to fold the duct and (2) needed a couple more pieces of tape, but duct tape worked fine. The key, of course, is to get a good cutout. The price is very reasonable compared to others, especially considering it comes with a vent duct. Make sure to wear gloves when handling the metal.
