A great overview for any interested in the occult
While not offering an in depth view into any particular area of the occult, the book provides such a well-rounded look into both the history of the major areas of magic and their modern day incarnations that it would be impossible to not recommend the title for those looking into the occult, either as a passing interest, or wanting to learn more about magic.

Good primer for those curious on what's going on in this corner.
I had the chance to buy this on kindle as I was really trying to get my head around what magick was in respect to physics, mind over matter, application, etc.. My goal pretty much was to see just how much of it - as similar to hallucinogen-oriented commercial art - would jump out at me in culture or in practice in the social structures. It was a fascinating read; I'd seen Genesis P-Orridge in some electronic music videos, new next to nothing about Throbbing Gristle, but even knew less about just how well versed he is on these topics; his writings on Aleister Crowley, Austin Osman Spare, Bryon Gysin, and William Burroughs were all incredibly informative. You also had a few other authors such as Donald Tyson (same gentleman who did a great rework on Agrippa's 3 Books of Occult Philosophy) giving a synopsis of what John Dee and Edward Kelley's Enochian Keys were all about and Boyd Rice's unique take on Sumerian lore.I think there was only one particular author's article that didn't stack up to me at all - talked about art shows and quoted bible verse in ways that made absolutely no sense (could be immediately blown off by quick reference) but other than that a lot of very interesting and diverse stuff in here.

Mind-bending...
I normally digest works of this sort like a plate of buttery pasta; quickly cannibalizing the wretched noodles with little thought for actual appreciation for their delightfully starchy taste. This collection of various antidotes about some of my heroes and Gods, some familiar, some new, required me to add some parmesean and slowly appreciate my adoration of all kinds of creepy pasta. Read if you dig my flavor of cookin'!

If you're interested in more modern Occult and Pagan lore and history, this may be for you.
A decent anthology of the history, types, and imaginings of the occult. There is something for everyone (interested in the occult), yet the Book of Lies may not be for everyone. From easily digestible works, to works where one may find themselves asking "when will the chapter end?" From outright fun writings, to the crazy and delusional, the Book of Lies has it all. It's a good anthology; put together with care, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the Occult.

LIES! ALL LIES! Yet they're so good!
After collecting a lot of modern books on magick, I've decided to purchase a book for "psyching" myself up to enter what I call "the mage mindzone". This book is the kind I was looking for. Disinformation's Book of Lies gives me a lot of inspiration I need when it comes to my lifestyle. This is good, so deviously good. Five out of five fireballs.

DISAPPOINTED!!
Disappointed, BIG TIME!! Here I thought this book would be a review of all the things the fundies (who are NO fun at all!) have wrong about us wiccans, pagans, & seekers of occult knowledge, etc. Nope. More than half the book features sex, drugs, & rock & roll, which could have easily been covered in a different book. Some of the articles I found interesting, but the book as a whole I found misleading & a general waste of my time.

Meh
Not a very interesting book, kind of haphazardly edited together and missing a common thread.

Brilliant, consciousness expanding
Brilliant, consciousness expanding, challenging! The essays by Grant Morrison and Genesis P Orridge are worth the price of admission. Add in Robert Anton Wilson, HP Lovecraft and Austin Osman Spare and you have enough mind altering material to keep exploring the depths of the subconscious for years to come. Metzger hits a home run with this one.
