Problems crop up with age of the unit.
Initially, I purchased this item in error. I thought that I was buying a protractor type angle finder. Not too pleased with Amazon for inserting the advertisement for this level smack dab in the angle finders. Even with the confusion on my part (which was facilitated by Amazon) I gave it 5 stars. I pulled out my Starrett precision level and compared the readings. The Gem Red was exactly on. And, the Gem Red is less than a fourth the cost of a Starrett level. In addition, the Gem Red has an inclination readout. That is to state how many millimeters in a meter the object you are measuring is off level. Thus, not only does one obtain a degree reading, they also obtain information as to how many millimeters the object deviates from level over a distance of one meter. Now two years later and no use I pulled the unit out. I could not obtain a consistent reading and as such replaced the batteries with fresh batteries. Still could not obtain consistent readings and the digital reading is at odds with the physical bubble level, which is part of the device. I also note that now after two years one can turn the unit on and obtain a reading then turn the unit off and on again obtaining yet a different reading.Batteries did come with the unit, but where they are triple A they are easily replaceable.

Invaluable forestry survey tool for measuring tree height (or other object height)
I purchased this level to use as an clinometer replacement and it works great for that purpose. Far less expensive than a clinometer, I believe it will be just as precise. It will be used to measure tree height, by sighting down the groove on the level to the top of the tree. I've used it already for that purpose and it is accurate - using the formula Tree Height = tangent(degrees) X distance from tree; then simply add the difference of your eye height from the ground (it will be easy to correct for topographic slope using the same level). This level measures only in degrees (not percent slope), not a big deal as the height formula is simple. It also has a 'hold' button to lock in your measure as you sight down the level; very handy. Simply read the degrees off the level and plug into your formula. Just over 16 inches long; weight about one pound. The manual says you will get 100 hours use from two AAA batteries (included); auto shutoff after 5 minutes. Unfortunately the location of the On/Off button on the side will be easy to turn on accidentally. Although it doesn't say anywhere, I suspect it is Chinese manufactured. I would recommend this product to a friend, although the user manual could use improvement.

OK
Instructions show a unit w. bubble vials. This one missing them. Also, doesn't indicate how to change battery. Minor item but I'm used to removing screws from instrumentation not grabbing plastic in the front and seeing what gives. A little more ink on the IB (instruction bulletin) would go along way to getting to USA standard for electronic devices. Still, it's nifty for the price.

Quality unit at reasonable price.
Just what I was looking for. I had been using an app. on mobile phone to place components when welding parts but was getting slag on mobile phone glass face. This was a reasonable priced unit that does exactly what expected. It is not heavy but appears to be durable and gets the job done.

Bad out of the box.
I put the provided battery in and it read ERROR and would not turn off until I removed the battery. Put another new battery in and the same thing happened.Defective? I don't know but it simply didn't work for me from the start.Good luck.

Amazing for the price.
Worked right out of the box. No calibration needed. Non digital 3 foot bubble levels are quite sensitive but do not give you the degree of slope. If that is important then this level is just as sensitive and gives you a number to report.

I like the feature that tells you how many degrees off ...
This level is really handy! I like the feature that tells you how many degrees off the object is from being level, because my eyesight is not the best. The magnetic feature is also very handy!

Seems to be of good quality. Star taken off because no instructions included
Purchased this because I am putting large format tile in the kitchen and I wanted something to be certain the tiles are absolutely level. Seems to be of good quality. Made by a Chinese company [...] From the website they seem to make a large assortment of digital measuring devices. I've only tested it in my shop and it seems to work as described. I only gave it 4 stars because there were no instructions included. I know it is a simple device to operate, but basic instructions should be included. I checked the website and no instructions were available. I'll update the post if there are any problems with it once I really start using it.
