I purchased these for a local food bank that only hands out non-perishable items. Because of this, most families don't have access to meats. Having struggled with a bit of financially-caused hunger myself, I can honestly say that meals like this are always greatly appreciated by food-bank recipients. This wholesome little microwavable meal may not be the healthiest or most appetizing meal in the world, but it certainly beats a night without a meal for many families. Each package of any Hormel Compleats meal is very filling. The serving size is large, large enough to fill even the hungriest of bellies. This specific meal, the Roast Beef & Mashed Potatoes has a few large delicious chunks of roast beef meat atop of smooth mashed potatoes, topped with brown gravy. The meat is very moist and the texture is exactly what you would expect of canned meat. It's not over-processed or strewn with any weird additives. It tastes like it should. The mashed potatoes are smooth and flavorful. They're sometimes a bit difficult to get evenly cooked in the microwave, so I suggest stirring every 20 seconds. It's always helped me get the mashed potatoes evenly heated. The gravy is really good as well. Not to heavy or watery. Just perfect. These meals are great for a variety of things. Obviously I donated them to a food bank- where they can be handed out as wholesome meat and veggies meal for families in need. But I also eat these myself, and they are a great quick meal on nights when you find yourself too exhausted to cook dinner. They'd also be great as emergency meals, because they don't need to be stored in a refrigerator. And they'd be great for camping, because they can easily and conveniently be carried in a backpack or stored in a tent. When it comes to canned, shelf-life meals, this is definitely one of the only foods I find appetizing. It's obviously not on par with any freshly cooked meal out there, but because of it's convenience and affordability I think it's rightfully earned its 5 stars from me.

I have had the beef and the chicken Compleat...I am an elderly women who is still independent at home but has now needed to do less cooking meals from scratch....These meals are just the right size for a lunch or dinner for me...I will continue to order the chicken and beef meals...The flavor is great as I don't like a lot of spicey food...Hormel has done a great job making these meals...

Disappointing meat and taste not as good as pictured. Their meatloaf is worth buying but this more expensive beef is not as good in my opinion,

What they call roast beef is actually a slab of ground meat. I really hate when they do that. If it is ground meat then they should say so. Their Beef Pot Roast is actually a small slice of beef. Of course, if you don't mind eating unknown ground meat, then you may like this. The potatoes taste good. Apparently they will not let me review the Salisbury Steak since I've already reviewed The Roast Beef. Anyway the Salisbury steak is very dry and tasteless. The potatoes were the best part.

I tried these and the Swedish Meatball dish and the portions are okay. If you eat a lot, they're gonna seem on the small side and you're still gonna be very hungry afterwards. If you get full easily, the portion is gonna seem like a lot, but I think they're somewhere in the middle and not bad for the price. The taste however is NOT good. I tried one package and right away it smelled like canned dog food. But sometimes things smell really bad and they end up tasting so good. So I gave it a good try and it tasted like what I would think canned dog food tast like. The mashed potatoes was okay, not great but not terrible, but the meat and gravy were a little less than okay. I could not finish it and I was really hungry. I am donating my unopened ones to a food bank. I don't want to keep them at all.
