Is this suitable for wine, cider, beer? If all which is it best for?

It will work. It's best for whiskey. Those who say stuff about the smell, taste n whatnot don't know crap! I've used this for moonshine and beer. If you know what your doing this yeast is just fine. I use this yeast when I can't get ahold of my turbo yeast. This yeast will take about a full 2 weeks to reach full potential. I get anywhere from 16 to 22 % abv.

What working temp range dose this have? Expiration date? If its shipped from amazon how long has it been sitting? In a uncontrolled warehouse.

I use ambient (room) temperature for making beer, mead and similar. We use plastic 5 gallon water carboys as fermenters with a water glass on top (bubbler after 2 days in warm months to keep the insects out). Carboys are set in a unused bath tub where the foaming can easily be cleaned up. Dose is at least 2 tablespoons added when I can touch the carboy comfortably and again in 12 hours if the process appears to be slower than expected. (My feelings are the best way to prevent "infection" is first - solid sanitation, second - overwhelm all possible contaminating microbes.The expiration date of yeast I received in January is 9/12/18. I keep it in the refrigerator until needed. Once opened, it is stored in a mason jar in the refrigerator. I also keep a super yeast handy as a back up for mead, honey wheat or anything else in case the fermentation gets stuck. This happens occasionally, but not often regardless if it is DADY or a super yeast added first. This may have to do with the sugar concentration in the carboy. I found that the higher the sugar concentration, the more apt to have a stuck fermentation.

How long would this yeast keep in storage? There no expiration date! Also how would you store it? Refrigerator?

I'm not an expert, but what I've read is "keep it cool, dark and dry but don't freeze". It should last for years if conditions are good. Don't freeze it--that will kill the yeast. Always test the yeast before adding to your wash. Mix up a glass of warm water (75-100 deg F) with some sugar. Add the amount of DADY that your recipe calls for and gently stir....then let it sit for about 20 minutes. If it froths up like a good head on a mug of beer, the yeast is alive and working. Then, just pour the glass of froth into your wash. I've been keeping mine in the refrigerator and it seems to be doing fine.

how can I measure grams of the yeast without a digital scale? anyone know how many grams in a tsp or tbsp? thanks

I do not know if my comment was sent so, here we go again. I use 1 tsp. for 5 gallons of wash. This is for an 8-10 % whiskey, rum and vodka wash. I prefer 80-85 deg. F. for fermentation and aerate the the wort before pitching my yeast. my nutrient is usually boiled yeast from my trub or dunder. This works very consistently for me.Cheers,

I thought the yeast they sold me is dead - but it wasn't

So I need to correct my review. The original read "I pitched this yeast 48 hours ago and it is still just floating on top of my wash. It's the first time I'm using this yeast so I waited, but now I am reading the reviews here I'm thinking that I have also been scammed. 30 pounds for a pack of dead yeast is a lot of money and there is a policy of "No Returns" on this item. JUST DO NOT BUY THIS." However, I have since reused the yeast and it works. The trick is to work the yeast into a little warm water to make a runny paste and then pitch it into your wash. After a couple of slower laggy days the fermentation just took off. However, I think they should update the instructions which encourages you to pitch directly into your fermentation vessel: this did not work for me at all, the yeast just floated on top and did nothing. The second option provided in the instructions to create a paste is the correct way to go.

My first mash all my ingredients are great but I was so disappointed with this yeast cos it was dead I hope this company redeems my money that I paid them so disappointed 😞😞😞

DO NOT BUY. Old stock.

This looks like old stock to me. The packaging is damaged, not sure if a date has bern removed. This product is NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RETURN. Over £30 for a dodgy looking product and hat you can’t send back. STAY CLEAR AND DO NOT BUT HERE.
