97 lefty Epi CSB LP fixed
Cold out of the case, OEM bridge PU no output: found de-potted and shorted to ground - was time for replacement. Great quality; shielded 26ga-5 conductor leads, vintage tone & appearance nickel and direct replacement fit. Ohm' d out exactly as spec'd. Included very clear polarity/termination diagram for correct installation. Significant tonality/sustain improvement over OEM ceramic PU's. I used .023uf poly caps in both positions. Very clear definition in both positions. Treble position is not tinny bright requiring a tone control adjustment when playing clean. As well, both pick-ups sound great together its not always this way. Very impressed at this price point. Came to me in a little 2"x 2"x 4"L brown card board box containing properly ESD packaged components. Big brand name PU mfg's should be aware; passing advertising & marketing and packaging cost on to customers/players today is not going to get them revenue when I can purchase a product of the same or better quality for a quarter the cost and get it just as soon. Note: I did not feel comfortable checking the box for "easy to install". So I must say; If don't have the correct tools, or your not confident or comfortable in your mechanical disassembly, electrical diagram reading, and soldering skills I would recommend taking these and your instrument to a "professional" music shop for correct installation the first time. 2hr install

These things are good!
The media could not be loaded. I bought these for the price. I wanted to build a guitar and customize it, but I didn't want to mess up something I had a lot of money in.It was some time since I ordered them and I'm happy to see a wiring diagram up. That was a challenge earlier. I finally got the guitar finished and everything wired and strung up and I am super impressed. I played these noodles though an Orange Micro Terror amp. Tone and volume were all the way up.They have a hot PAF sound to them without being too muddy. I'm really digging them and for the money they're an outstanding value IMO.

Pleasantly surprised!
I'm a big fan of alnico-5 humbuckers, so when I was rebuilding my Gibson Sonex, I was looking for a set to replace the overwound ceramic 'buckers I put in back in the early 90's. The ones I wanted are pretty difficult to find, but I came across these, and since they had similar specs, I figured why not. If they sucked, I could swap them for something better. They don't suck.In fact, they're just about exactly what I was looking for. Smooth low end, plenty of treble without sounding harsh, and a nice mid-range bump with just the right amount of honk. Very balanced. The clean tones sound really good, and they scream with a good overdrive or distortion pedal. I may have a new favorite pickup!Edit: They are somewhat noisy when you crank the gain on your amp, but that could also be the ancient Alpha pots in the guitar. I'm planning to upgrade those soon,, so if they improve, I'll give them five stars.

My new favorite pickups!
About a year ago I transferred my old Iron Gear Pickups (which I like very much) out of this guitar and into a new Les Paul that I had just purchased. This guitar has been waiting for a set of pickups since that time. These were so affordable, I figured they were worth a try, and boy was I right! They are on par with my other favorite pickups (the Tesla Shark from Iron Gear, which are supposed to be a knock off of Seymour Duncan's Slash pickups). The construction of the Ascendas HZ5 is very high quality, and I love the fact that it comes in a simple cardboard box - no money wasted on BS packaging that I would just dispose of anyway. I do wish they would have provided a link to their website so I could check out their entire product line. I have several guitars and there's always something I need. Anyway, these pickups have a rich smooth sound when using them in double coil mode and they chime wonderfully when I switch over to the coil splits. If you're reading this and you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry about it. If you don't have your guitar wired for coil splitting pickups, you won't be using this feature anyway. The point is that these pickups can do it if you want them to. When used in the standard humbucking mode, the tone is nice and creamy on the neck pickup and bites just right on bridge pickup. The sound never gets muddy. I love these things!

Not Impressed
Bought these to try out in a Peavey Impact Firenza AX. Mid volume okay. Full volume muddy and distorted. Even after changing cap and tone pot not much difference. Maybe others have had good luck but not in my case.

Great Pickups, Great Price, Get Them!
I bought these for my late 90's Korean Epiphone Les Paul, which always felt good but never sounded quite right. I had long ago replaced the original pickups but was never really happy with them. So, the reviews for the HZ5's appeared to be positive and the price was definitely nice. Unfortunately my wiring knowledge & soldering skills leave much to be desired and after putting the guitar back together something was clearly not right. It took me couple of weeks to get someone less useless to help, turns out my efforts had blown a pot or two so they needed to be replaced also. Anyway, the end result was a hugely improved Les Paul! The sound is now pretty awesome - warm clear and smooth at all volumes & pickup selections - whether clean or with some heat!! In my younger days I've had at least 3 real Gibson Les Pauls - this Epi has always played real nice but now it has the sound as well - all without breaking even my modest budget. Can HIGHLY recommend these pickups.

Not impressed
I gotta say wasn’t impressed with these. Put them in my fender bullet mustang and they didn’t sound too great. Maybe it’s just me but I had to take them out. They’re not bad, I just wasn’t impressed with their tone.

High powered humbuckers
Put these in a PRS kit and they sound great. High output and great harmonics at a reasonable price.

Ok for the money
These were ok for the money but not great. If it's all you can afford then they will be fine. Don't put these in your expensive guitars however.

Good Sound
Put these pickups in a semi hollow body telecaster to replace the stock squire ones that came with the guitar. The sound quality improved immensely, guitar has much more of a USA Gibson tone. Good note definition and smooth tone, played through a Marshall you get a good solid rock crunch, with a OD pedal added think Gary Moore.
