Q: Could I build my own for about $10?

You could build one. Not for 10$ though. You might need experience with bending metal tubing. and would need to find foam to fit over the tubing.

Q: How long is the rope? I have really tall doors

Did you devise a way to use your really tall doors? I'd like a solution, as well. The doors are also too thick for a normal over the door hook. I noticed this model uses a knob rather than a separate hook. Maybe adding a section of rope in between the rope and web material with knob will work. Then, you'd need a way to toss it over the door or attach fishing line down the other side to keep hold of it over the door when not in use and pull it back up into place over the door.

Q: Is this the “fat one”around your head or “slim one” under jaw?

The curved part goes behind your neck and the bar with the foam just in the center goes under your chin. The smaller black piece extending from the two white ropes goes over the door when you close it.
