Can’t wait to wake up to my coffee!
Smooth and flavorful. Full bodied with a light and bright finish. Makes a very well balanced cup of coffee. It’s so good I’ve stopped using my French press and fill reusable stainless steel pods for a quick Keurig brew. Makes a good pour over, too. I’ve used Lavazza espresso beans for a long time but thought I’d try the Qualita Oro blend for a change of pace. It’s more expensive but I’d say it’s a step up in terms of flavor. So far the beans have been uniform and evenly roasted. Another quality Lavazza coffee blend!

Qualita Oro is a bright coffee. Blend w Perfetto to balance, for espresso style brewing.
If you like bright refreshing coffee, the Qualita Oro is for you, but with a caveat if you brew espresso style. I was looking for a light/medium roast coffee that might still have a little of its origin flavor.( **) When I saw the description for floral and fruity in a light/medium roast, I could not resist. When I opened the package…and pay attention here, because the nose really knows, the Qualita Oro had a full rich aroma, without harshness that bites your nose (astringency) and without smokey aroma that you can almost taste (burned). The beans were the color of milk chocolate, and had a slightly scraggly rough surface with a little bit of striations. Based on that, I think this roast is City+ (**). When I brewed this coffee espresso style, which tends to accentuate brightness in coffee, I found it had a little too much brightness. This is where blending came to the rescue! Based on the excellent description of the Oro coffee, I guessed it might need to be balanced out by a darker roasted coffee with a neutral flavor. For that I chose the Perfetto espresso coffee because it was described as having “chocolate” flavor, but not other flavors or spices. Based on the excellent description of the Perfetto, it sounded like an ideal base for blending with the Oro. I mixed the two (Qualita Oro, Perfetto) in equal parts, brewed espresso style and it was amazing. The super thirst-quenching brightness was balanced with a delicious light chocolate midtone free of any smokey flavor. It was amazing how these two coffees in a 50/50 blend complemented each other to make the blend better than the sum of its parts. This is just one experiment based on my tastes and on brewing espresso style. The ratios will be different based on the brewing method and fineness of grind. I highly recommend blending Qualita Oro + Perfetto in 1:1 ratio for espresso style brewing. ** ROAST v ORIGIN ———————- Just a final note on coffee roast style vs origin flavor. They do not refer to the same thing! Most common misconception is that French roast is a flavor. It is not! It refers to the degree of roasting. Roast styles, or degree of roasting, range from super light “Cinnamon,” to the first pyrolysis crack during roasting called “City,” to the second pyrolysis crack during roasting called “Full City,” and beyond where shiny oil is clearly on the bean surface called “Vienna,” to even darker shiny oily beans with little divots breaking off the bean surfaces and all origin flavor obliterated by the roast called “French,” and then to nearly charcoaled beans with only the roast flavor of burn called “Italian.” Origin flavors emanate from the bean itself, a result of where it is grown (latitude and longitude, terroir) and how it is processed (wet or dry). Flavors such as blueberry of a Harrar coffee, spice of a Columbian coffee, peanut of a Brazilian coffee, refreshing brightness and full body of a Guatemalan coffee, and perfect balance of a Panama coffee, should all be detectable with the right degree of roast, probably no more than Full City+.

Give it a try, it's decent.
These are pretty good. I'm not blown away, and I'm not a coffee snob, so I don't think the bar was super high. Price was right, and I like this brew. Would order again, but not sure its any better than the pre-ground Lavazza Perfetto blend I usually get.

Burnt Aroma and Bitter Taste for Me
I really wanted to like this coffee, but it didn’t work for me. I’ve tried many different whole-bean coffees, so I usually pay attention to aroma and flavor. When I opened this bag, the first thing I noticed was a burnt smell. The beans themselves look fine and not overly roasted, so the aroma was surprising. I tested the coffee several times in my espresso machine, adjusting the grind size and dose to see if the flavor would improve. No matter what I tried, the taste remained quite bitter and sharp, without the smoothness or sweetness I usually expect from a medium roast. Because of that burnt note in the aroma, the overall experience wasn’t pleasant for me. I’m sure some people might enjoy this stronger, more intense profile, but personally it didn’t match my preferences. For me, this coffee is closer to a 2–3 star experience.

OK, so I'm not here to say I've tried 1000 different types of coffee beans. In fact, I'm fairly new to coffee and love the opportunity to try something new whenever I can. A while back my wife got me a bean grinder and French press, I think mainly because SHE liked coffee and it was an excuse to get herself a Christmas present while pretending it was actually for me. I liked both and they make for some better tasting coffee. Long story short, we kept trying different types of beans until I came across these at a grocery store. I tend to like "Italian styles" of things and decided to give these a try. I'd tried some Lavazza stuff already with my Keurig so I figured they'd at least be decent. Well, they're the best beans I've ever tried. My wife was reluctant to get them because they were more expensive than others and a larger bag than others we were buying to try, but they're her favourite as well. I've been ordering them from Amazon.ca since then because Amazon tends to be cheaper than the grocery stores by a few dollars, and I always make sure I order enough to get free shipping anyhow.
