Not rusty, but all strings will corrode over time. Be sure to wipe them down with a soft dry cloth after playing, and use “Fast Fret” occasionally, and that will extend their sonic brightness and life.

There are 8 strings total. 4 pairs of 2 strings.

Q: what guage should i order? (Eatman 305, new player <1 yr)

I would steer toward a lightweight Guage. As a newer player, it will be easier on your fingers. There are responsive and easier to play.
