Easy install, solid product, will probably last the life of my Weber Smokey mountain. I’ve had my Weber Smokey mountain for 13 years and it’s still in great shape and going strong. I would imagine it may last a lifetime, and the hinge will last the life of the WSM smoker. High quality build that makes the Weber look tough and great.

Super heavy duty with very easy to follow instructions. Almost a must so you dont get your tops full of grit putting them on the ground, messing up your seals.

Ever since I got my 22.5" WSM a couple of years ago, I have been viewing and learning about all the mods one can do on the WSM. I have installed the gasket tape around the front door opening which was very successful, and hand made some walnut vent handles for the bottom 3 vents which is very functional and really nice looking, IMO.I installed the hinge kit yesterday and it's everything you ever needed for your WSM. It took about 20 minutes (thank you YouTube WSM modders), and it works great. If you only do one mod on your WSM, this is the one that will make your smoking life easier and more efficient.Lots of people complain that Weber should have this as a standard build, along with wheels. Remember, if you install the hinge and do not align the hinge over one of the 3 legs, it may tip over when you open it fully. If you install the casters, and you hit a crack in your patio or a raised deck board when rolling it while its got hot coals, it will tip over or the middle section will fall out with your food and greasy hot water. This is called liability. Weber can't control how you use it or move it around. With any mod, be smart. Listen to all the warnings from others before you attempt them.I love my WSM and all my family and friends love the food it produces. If anyone is on the fence regarding purchasing one, you will not be disappointed. If Harry Soo can win BBQ competitions on a national stage with these, they are definitely worth your investigation.

If you own this smoker, you need this hinge. There is no need for discussion, just go buy it and thank me later.The Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM) Smokers are great vertical water smokers. You know they are good, when you see them all over the place at BBQ competitions. Yet despite their simple, efficient design, there is one major flaw. Where do you put the lid when you need to access the meat? On a traditional Weber Kettle, they put a hook inside the lid that hangs off the side of the kettle, but this is not possible with the WSM due to the depth of the lid. As a result we are forced to look around to place the lid, often on the ground, while checking/mopping/wrapping our meat. The problem is this then transfers dirt and debris into the cooker.The solution comes in the form of this aftermarket hinge kit, which locks the lid into an open position, then easily allows you to re-close the smoker when done. The kit was developed by the guys at Unknonw BBQ, born out of their experiences in competitions and comes complete with all hardware needed for installation, and clear instructions that is little more than drilling 6 holes and attaching the hinge. The hinge itself is substantive and good quality, matching that you get with the Weber you will be attaching it to. Hinges come in two sizes, one that fits the 22 and 18 inch models, and one that fits the 14 inch model. The hinge is equipped with a quick release pin that when removed allows the lid to be removed for transportation, cleaning, or whatever.Things to note, when removing the pin you need to keep track of it, as it is easily lost. The Weber's factory cover will still fit over the WSM with this attached, though it will be a snug fit.

No doubt this is a very well built hinge. It does everything you want.It also could second as an aircraft part it is so well made. Well, not really but you get the point. You pay for the extra quality where it may not necessarily be needed.I would however recommended it to a friend, since this is the kind of thing I would have said. Hey why not make it stainless and tig weld it. They did.
