Requires focus and chewing!
This is a deep book. Lots of good stuff here! It definitely requires focus and attention to soak up everything, so don’t go in thinking this will be a quick read since it is a short book. Rather, set aside the time it needs to digest.

His ways our higher than ours. We serve a BIG God.
Amazing look into the the two wills of God. God’s self exaltation is his greatest service to us. The protection of his glory and name above all else is essential since we are designed to give him glory.

salvation belongs to God
I enjoyed reading this book because both sides of the coin of salvation were dealt with. Even though it appears that it has two sides to it, it is still God's perspective we must have about any topic and sometimes understanding God and His will can be difficult to grasp and explain. I think John Piper did a good job on this topic.Faith and trust are what moves God! We aren't always going to understand everything about God but we should know all the scriptures that deal with any given topic about God and His will. I do think that after reading this book I have gained a more balanced view about God's will on salvation. It's just that - God's will. After reading this book I was even more thankful that God chose me from before the foundation of the earth to reveal His son Jesus to me to save me, so that I could forever praise Him!

Careful Exegesis ?
This book starts out with a quick dismissal of one of the most straight forward passages in the entire Bible. Here is 1 Timothy 2:3-4 (KJV) ..."For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires ALL men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."Obviously, if you want to show us poor folks down on the "low road" how to get to the "mountain path of election", you must begin by "fixing" this verse, because this verse blatantly contradicts everything this little book tries to prove (i.e. that God does NOT desire all men to be saved). So here is Piper's careful exegesis ...It is possible that careful interpretation of 1 Timothy 2:4 would lead us to believe that God's desire for all people to be saved does not refer to every individual person in the world, but rather to all sorts of people, since "all people" in verse 1 may well mean groups such as "kings and all who are in high positions".There you have it. "It is possible ... may well mean". Let's just step back for a moment and ask ourselves what Paul would have written if he wanted to say what Piper says that he says. There is a Greek word for "sorts of ..." (potapos), and I am quite sure Paul was quite able to convey the exact meaning of this particular verse given his command of the Greek language. I mean, this is a very important point. Would Paul have left this up to Piper? When Peter said (2 Peter 3:9) that the Lord is "not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" was Peter having trouble with his Greek? Apparently, because Piper says that Peter doesn't really mean "any" but he really means "professing Christians". Tell me again why the Lord would be patiently waiting for "professing Christians" to come to repentance? One reviewer said that this book was just too difficult for "baby Christians". Even a baby Christian should know to throw this book away before finishing the first chapter.Bill Fazakerly

Calvinist view of salvation
It is an excellent explanation of the unconditional election of Calvinism using old and new testament examples of election as well as a thorough discussion of the complex nature of the will of God, his complex emotional life, his wisdom and our understanding of God's sovereignty. There are also interesting arguments from Arminian theology discussed and refuted through Scripture.

Strong, short and dense content
John Piper offers a long answer to the title of his book. I recommend this book for people that already understand well the Gospel, as it can cause some impacts on new believers. For curious people, also not recommended, as it may give you a wrong impression about God. Technical and complex, loved it.

Who am I to criticise John Piper? However I felt Piper ws trying to understand the mind of God where sometimes we have to accept God's will by faith, see Eph.2:8 " I t is by grace through faith that we are saved"

Though a mystery of divine mercy, we are directed to a higher enquiry, namely, that God desires for his own glory to be made manifest.

Does God Desire All to be Saved
It is to early to comment since I have yet to read this book. Title certainly appeals and no doubt will promote interesting discussion with my Christian friends
