Victoria masterpiece continues in regal fashion
It is history of the Monarchy done with dramatic superlatives. Largely accurate, but emphasis is on the dramatic relationships. For instance Abigail is not real. Sister, actually half-sister, Feodora (Kate Fleetwood) arrives as a new antagonist character. Jenna Coleman has mastered her role as Queen Victoria, this season beginning about 1848. Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) seeks to prove his worth in colossal proportions. Royalty has no boundaries, and it is the historic period when other countries like France eliminated royalty with the slice of a knife. Also witness the rise and fall of Lord Palmerston Foreign Secretary (Lawrence Fox.) The excellent writing is just behind the stunning costuming and some stunning set and location cinematography. Masterpiece’s Victoria is teaching America about the Monarchy in a pleasing way. My wife liked it so much she immediately went back to the beginning for a second binge-watch while I headed off to review. A keeper, like the first two seasons. SDH SUBTITLES available for all 8 episodes and the abundance of film bonus. 1. Uneasy Lies the Head That Wears the Crown 2. London Bridge Is Falling Down 3. Et in Arcadia 4. Foreign Bodies 5. A Show of Unity 6. A Coburg Quartet 7. A Public Inconvenience 8. The White Elephant Bonus enough to equal another episode.

Good Drama, Fair History
The third season of Victoria takes the intrepid young Queen and her Consort through some of the toughest years of her early reign: the Year of Revolutions of 1848, when thrones fell across Europe and even the British Crown seemed to tremble for a time through the opening of the Great Exhibition of 1851, a dynamic expression of the power and glory of British industry and culture. Because this is a continuing drama, some of the linchpins of the earlier two series are repeated here, most especially the supposedly troubled marriage of Victoria and Albert. The most compelling new character is the Foreign Secretary, Viscount Palmerston, who was responsible for an aggressive foreign policy intended to enhance British power in Europe and around the world. Another new character is Victoria's half-sister Feodora, who is depicted as serving as nursery maid in chief for the Queen's growing family. As with the other two series, it's important to remember that this is drama, not history, and while Jenna Coleman, Tom Hughes, Laurence Fox, and a host of other impressive actors do a stellar job, it's best to combine your TV viewing with some of the many fine written biographies of Victoria and Albert to get a more complete picture.

Bought to complete my collection. Good sturdy box, discs play (PAL). Happy with the item. Sad the story ended where it did and there was no follow-on - the acting chemistry between Jenna and Tom was compelling and electrifying... Sadly they split as a couple around this time so inevitable it couldn't continue as a programme.
