Absolutely. I've been covering gray for two decades. I only put henna on the roots. The rest keeps its color and matches. I use light red and red mixed equally. I pour the two powders into a zip lock and shake it up. Then I mix 2/3 cup powder with equal amount of hot tap water. I let it set for about 40 minutes before shampooing out.

Q: How well and how light is the light red henna? How much do I need to cover about 4 inches of hair as I'm growing out auburn henna

It works well and it is not too light. Its darker than a strawberry blonde. My hair is really fine and shorter than yours and I use half of a box each time. I would say a full box would be plenty for you. Here's a tip....when you mix it, let it sit for at least 90 minutes before putting it on your hair. Then you don't have to leave it on as long. I have lots of gray to cover so I leave it in about 45 mins after letting it sit for 90. Sorry I can't explain the color better....but I really like it.

This is a PERMANENT hair color. The only way to change it is to cover it with a darker color---it can't be bleached out. If you hate it, you'll be playing the roots game until it's gone unless you want to go brunette.

Hard to say - my hair is dark ash blonde/light ash brown. With henna, you really can't predict what will happen. If you don't like it, the good news is that it gradually fades. If you want a more dramatic effect, I would suggest going to a darker colored henna.
