This is not your typical diet book but one that takes a spiritual approach to dieting.
A COURSE IN WEIGHT LOSS: 21 SPIRITUAL LESSONS FOR SURRENDERING YOUR WEIGHT FOREVER (Hay House) by Marianne Williamson is certainly not your typical diet book.Rather, as the title implies, it takes a spiritual approach to the subject--one that's understandable if you're familiar with the author's work . . . she is an acclaimed lecturer and author, perhaps best known for her many years studying and teaching A COURSE IN MIRACLES.In this book, Williamson points out that the cause of excessive weight is not in your body, it is in your mind. And so when you overeat, you are not doing it to give yourself love; rather, you are doing it because you dislike something about yourself.To prevent this from happening, some excellent suggestions are given:* I suggest you rid your kitchen of all trigger foods, for they can still harm you as long as you do not have the will to resist their temptation. If the thought occurs to you that you are throwing away good food that costs real money, remind yourself that too much unhealthy food could in fact cost you your life. Fill your kitchen instead with colorful, nutritious foods; enlist family and friends to help you in this process, if you need their support. Get rid of all that is unhealthy, and make your kitchen a sacred place.* This is not a journey you should take alone. Perhaps you have a group of like-minded friends who in suffering what you have suffered can share the pain and power of this journey with you. A solitary path will only give more power to fear, while walking this path with others will give it the power and blessing of love. If you feel drawn to this course and want to dive into it more deeply, perhaps you have friends who wish to practice the lessons with you. Connecting deeply to other people is a connection to the Divine.And my favorite:* Make copies of that picture of your face atop a beautiful body and put them in various places around your home. Make sure you put them on your refrigerator, a cabinet in your kitchen, and your bathroom mirror. Make your kitchen and bedroom a visual homage to these images. And do not forget to place the picture on your altar. No matter what you think of them, they are imprinting themselves on your subconscious mind.I also liked the Reflection and Prayer at the end of each chapter in A COURSE IN WEIGHT LOSS.

A Spiritual Journey
I heard of this book through a person I met at a spiritual retreat. He said that while meditating he received the message about this book. He had never heard of the book nor the author before his meditation. Afterwards he did a bit more research and found out that the book was real. He didn't buy the book because he was still perplexed about the whole thing but he did tell me about it. He did ask me that if it worked for me to let him know so he can go buy it.It sounded unbelievable and weird but I was curious to find out about this book. I did my own research and found out that the author was coming to my city. She was invited to give a lecture on prosperity at a local church. She was amazing! She's such a motivational uplifting speaker. I had bought this book in Spanish for my mom and had the author sign it for me at this event. After the lecture I was more convinced and bought the book in English. Soon after I started my healing journey.The book is very easy to read. It explains the different ways you can do the journey. One being reading the whole thing first then doing the exercises. The other is reading a week at a time and then go back to each day and do the exercises. The third one is to read day by day and the last one is to read one day ahead of time so you know how to prepare for the upcoming day.For example on Day one it just tells you to relax! Another day she has you visualize you in front of a brick wall. Each brick has engraved a feeling inside you like "hate". The exercise asks you to slowly remove these bricks with the help of a higher being (God). Yet another day she has you creating a sacred place/space just for you to use.Whichever way you do it you can go at your own pace. There are prayers and exercise for you to do. I know many people don't like to do things, they just like to read and be over with. You can do that too. The truth is that in order for something to work, and most importantly to heal inside and out, you need to put some work into it. Once you do, everything starts falling into place on its own.Another thing I like about this book is that you don't have to be Christian to read it. It's very open to other philosophies.It also doesn't give you the feeling of guilt if you don't do an exercise or make you feel like you are betraying your religion by saying/reading the prayers at the end of each chapter.Do this for you, you won't regret it. I am not done with the book yet because I like to take things slow but so far I can feel and see a huge difference in the way I "use" food. My mom is doing the same as I am and she too has seen and felt the difference in her life. I do hope this is "the book" that will help you heal your relationship with food.
