Ignore clueless critics - Ironkey is the gold standard in secure flashdrives

*by H***M on Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2009*

First off, I don't understand critics who slam a product because:(a) They received bad service from the retail middleman, Amazon.com (is this Ironkey's fault?)(b) They did not understand/research the product they were buying (does Ironkey indicate *anywhere* that this device is anything but an encrypted USB flashdrive for storing files?)(c) They plugged it into a virus/malware-compromised PC to perform setup. Well... duh, that's never a good idea, and common sense should tell you to never perform *any* security sensitive operation on a compromised PC.This a fantastic little device that really delivers what's promised: military-grade encryption, impact & water-resistant, data locked as securely as possible for a USB key. And the big thing for me, if it's lost or stolen... no worries! It will self-destruct on tampering. The software that comes with it also has some nice supplemental features, incl. secure online backup of your drive contents (to restore in the event it's lost or stolen), and website password caching (though as some have noted, it doesn't work on 100% of websites, but big whoop --it's a free add-on). Walks you through the process, very intuitive and easy to use IMO.**Warning: don't just casually plug this in to any computer when you first receive it, and make sure that PC is VIRUS-FREE. Make sure you have enought time to perform the entire setup (10-15 mins), preferably your primary home PC. The first time you plug it in, the security setup interface auto-launches, and you have no choice but to complete it right then and there. One small improvement I would like to see: a capless or tethered-cap model --it's pretty easy to lose the darned thing.

Does not work with OSX 10.8 or 10.9 (falsely advertised)

*by M***T on Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2013*

If you have a Mac and you're running one of the latest versions of OSX, either Mountain Lion or Mavericks, this device will not work out of the box. You will receive a message in the IronKey app stating that it is an unsupported device and that it cannot connect. After calling technical support, I was told that in order to get the device to work with the later versions of OSX, I would need to update the firmware. But the problem is that the firmware can only be updated using a Windows machine, which I do not have access to. Now I have three of these devices that I cannot use because I only own Macs, and therefore cannot update them to work with Macs. I'm leaving a 1-star review because this product is advertised as having cross-platform support, and neither the product description on Amazon, nor the IronKey website itself makes any mention of the incompatibility with OSX, or that a PC is required in order to use this product on OSX. The literature states that they support Max 10.4+. How can they claim that they support OSX 10.4+ when they do not support the last two major releases of OSX (10.8 or 10.9), unless you also have a Windows machine available?

This seems to be the enterprise edition

*by S***G on Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2014*

Per vendor, it won't work for home users.Attempting to get a return label with amazon, perhaps I was sent the wrong item.Product description said "... BASIC secure..."No where anywhere was it stated that this is the enterprise edition.Email from vendor when I contact them for support:" ... If you are being prompted for an activation code and you intend to initialize the device without using Ironkey Enterprise Server or Service, then you will need purchase either a Personal or Basic model as opposed to an Enterprise device which you currently possess. Please return the Enterprise device to the point of sale and replace it with either the Basic or Personal model."
