I have long been familiar with this version, and in my opinion it is the best translation to give to anyone who is not familiar with Biblical texts. It avoids words and phrases that are not common in everyday use. For example, it uses "engaged to be married" instead of "betrothed" and "pregnant" instead of "with child". It is said to be on an 8th grade reading level, but I think it would be great for any child in 5th grade and up to read. This edition has maps, introductions to each book, a reading plan, a dictionary of words that are unfamiliar but unavoidable, It notes where parallel scriptures may be found. In short, it has many more features than the average outreach Bible. The print is a smaller font than ideal, but much better than most outreach versions. The pages are not too thin, and there is no bleedthrough of print. The book does not feel flimsy.
