I use it to tell if there is rebar in a block wall. **Q: Does the Zircon MetalliScanner MT6 Professional Metal Detector detect live electrical wires thru plaster walls?** A: Basically no, it does not. It only detects metallic metal like steel and non metallic metal like copper & aluminium, it displays and makes a sound for each and differenciates between the two so you can find the nail fixings for lathes and plasterboard to help you find joists and studs and ignore cables and pipes (excluding steel ones). It also displays the depth of the metal from the surface which helps exclude steel pipes. All of which we have found to be reasonably accurate. When used for a perlonged period it gets confused and starts to give odd readings, when this happens just turn it off and on again in a metal free environment and it re-sets itself. We chose it to use as a timber stud detector via the lathe nails as we had previously found that density detectors to find the studs themselves do not work in lathe & plater walls and ceilings where there is a reasonable thickness of lime plaster. **Q: Would this locate pipes in the floor of a pier and beam if the pipe is buried deeper in the soil underneath than 6"?** A: Hi. The outside range of the MT6 is six inches. It will not detect beyond it's stated spec/range. Thank you. **Q: Would this unit detect cables in a post tension slab?** A: Depends on how deep they are in the slab. Any more than 5-6" probably won't detect it. I got it to lacate rebar in a 8" concrete wall. It worked fine for that.
