When the setting is on a musical song it will play each note when you touch someone, but when it gets to a certain point it will stop and you have you set it up again. If playing it on the instrument sound setting or the animal sound setting, then it will stay on unless it has not been played with for a couple minutes and then it will turn off on its own. Who would have thought that this little toy would be so entertaining! Everyone in the family likes it and has found new ways to play. It's been great for teaching the youngers about circuits and how/why this works as well as just being fun to make music with. I don't know how long it will keep my kids interest but it sits in our living room so that when anyone comes over, it's picked up and played with.
