My wife has an iPad mini. This one is not as polished and not as high resolution, but I paid $400 for that iPad. So, for what it does and how much it costs it's a solid 5. Call it a law of diminishing returns, iPad is better, but not much better for watching movies or playing Angry Birds.My younger one is 8 years old. I knew we would need a second tablet, too many drops on the carpet and too many food smudges on display. Were going to have a car trip 3 hours away to visit science museum and have a zombie room adventure with friends. If you never been to one, check it out, just like this tablet you get a lot for your buck.So, ordered the start of the week, got it in 2 days, made sure I have Chrome, Flipboard - just to see resolution, a few kids games like Swordigo, Temple Run, and Epic. Also, put the Lego movie on my 32Gb SD card. My daughter lit up when saw it - a tablet of her own. For movies and games this tablet is great - bright, colorful display. For web browsing and news it's Ok, very usable, but iPad is better. Don't know about battery longevity since I charged overnight, but 3 hour trip was fine. For the longer trip I would take a car charger anyway. Tablet is very sturdy, my wife does not flinch every time we hear a thump in the background, everybody's happy.Overall, I would recommend this to anybody who has kids or nieces, nephews, grandkids, etc. For what your kid is going to do with it there is not much difference between this and a more expensive brand. The only choice would be between this and a larger 9 inch one. The difference in price is negligible, but 9" will be slightly heavier and bulkier. Anyway, I would be interested to try 9 inch one also.
